Everyday thousands of people are expected to get to work, school and other places of interest and the ideal way is to do this safely. Whether it’s in the hustling and bustling city of New York or a small town people need to have a means of transportation such as trains, planes, bicycles but the most common is vehicles , according to statista.com, there are 270.6 million vehicles in the United States being used everyday. In order to be able to drive a vehicle you are expected to go through training and pass a driving exam. The reason for the training is to ensure that people are driving safely. Safe driving is about people driving following the rules of the road and use of the vehicles. Some of the rules are, not driving drunk, driving in your lane, driving within the speed limit, among others.

It is said that nearly 390,000 accidents or injuries occur each which are caused by texting while driving. I have first unfortunately had the opportunity to experience an accident first hand. Thankfully this was a simple fender bender but made me realise two things , how fragile these cars are and how quickly things can change while one is driving. This shows how simple it is for one to lose focus while driving and what this often split second of destruction can result in.Safe driving is important because there are millions of people who are driving and safe driving ensures that people get to and from their destination safely. Additionally, driving safely will prevent the driver from getting fined as he/she will be following the rules. Some of the fines can be hefty. Where people are not driving safely and following the rules, accidents occur and some accidents result in damage to the vehicles, property injury to the driver, injury to the passengers and in some cases accidents result in death. The cost of injury and deaths can be very high for the person who is responsible for the accident. Safe Driving can result in the driver getting reduced insurance rates while unsafe driving and accidents can lead to increased insurance rates.Driving safely, is beneficial for both the driver and for those around.

The more educated our driver population is will definitely play a role in reducing the number of deaths , this is because the more informed drivers are on following the rules of the road , the more they will be inclined to do the right thing causing them to be safer drivers.
