Driver Education and Safety

Drivers education is one of the most important subjects that is taught to many young adults. Having the proper education and training for driving and the dangers of driving can prevent many driving related casualties. If drivers aren’t educated about the importance of driving safely whenever they are operating a vehicle then the amount of driving related casualties won’t decrease. Anyone who is eligible to drive should be able to drive safely to ensure the safety of others as well as themselves. Education on safe driving, rules and regulations, and what to do when a dangerous situation occurs can be prevented with the proper training and education. But it is up to the drivers and pedestrians to prevent those accidents. If these accidents can be prevented with the proper training and education then drivers, especially young drivers should be educated on what to do in a dangerous situation.

One step that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are more restrictions that prohibit drivers from using their phones, unless it is to contact emergency services such as 911. Without drivers using their phones, it allows the driver to focus on driving instead of their continuing digital conversation with a friend, changing their music, and etc. As a result of decreased phone usage when driving, it would decrease the amount of accidents since most accidents are caused by distractions. Another step could be fines or punishments towards drivers whose actions seem dangerous and could cause injury or death. With additional punishments or fines present, it would make drivers be more cautious whenever they are operating a vehicle.

I personally never experienced being in a car accident. However, I have seen my family members driving irresponsibly. Although, my family has never been involved in a car crash or any that I know of. But whenever I am on the road with my family, I tend to see many drivers who are using their phone periodically looking at the road to make sure they aren’t going to end up in an accident. In my mind, I think “Don’t be dumb. Get off your phone and drive” whenever I see other drivers being distracted in their car environment. But telling someone to get off their phone isn’t something that I can control and if that driver is involved in an accident they are going to regret using their phone. Even if drivers are using their phones for a split second, that split second could change everything. In addition, there are few ways that I can prevent accidents when I am able to drive is by eliminating all distractions in my car, being educated on how to drive safely to ensure the safety of others, and building good driving habits.

There are some steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver as well to help others become safer on the road. One of those steps is by eliminating distractions such as my phone. Texting while driving is one of the most dangerous things that a driver can do because it can put their lives and the lives of other drivers at risk. In addition, by putting any distractions away I can ensure that I won’t be distracted or tempted to use my phone or any other distractions when driving. Another step that I can take is to have everything ready and everything that I need before I go off to drive. By having various items ready such as a GPS ready, I am able to concentrate on driving instead of focusing on finding the place where I want to go. With this precaution, it allows drivers to focus on driving rather than focusing on getting distracted with things they forgot to have ready. Another step would be to not drive emotionally. The reason for this is that these emotions can influence your driving judgment, causing you to do things that you wouldn’t normally do if you were driving normally.

To conclude, driving education and safety is proportional to the amount of driving related casualties. There are many precautions that drivers and future drivers can take to reduce the amount of driving related casualties. If these drivers are able to take these precautions, we will be able to prevent many accidents and casualties. In addition, these precautions would make the road safer for experienced and non-experienced drivers to use. With better education and training on safe driving and the addition of various regulations that prohibit the use of phones, it would result in safer roads for drivers and a decrease in vehicle related accidents.
