The Dangers in Driving

It is important when it comes to driver education. I have personally taken driver education and I think I am a way better driver. Before I took the classes I almost got into a crash, I was only going 10 miles an hour but still, it scared me enough to go to my parents and say “I need to take a driving education class.” They said yes and I went on to take the class. I learned a lot from that class more than I learned from being a parent-taught student. I personally believe that in order to get your license you must take driver education.

Reducing the number of deaths on the road can most definitely help by taking driver education. The importance of the class is you get to know the road more. You learn from experienced drivers and for classes that the state teaches. You learn all the dangers involved in driving. I’m not sure about everyone but at the school that I went to, we spent two days on the subject texting and driving. One out of four crashes is caused by texting and driving. If we are taught the dangers of texting and driving the number of crashes would probably go down by a lot. We then spent three days on alcohol and drugs. The dangers of drinking and driving are something a lot of people are unaware of, for example when you drink you have impaired vision and delayed reaction time. Vision and reaction time has a lot to do with driving. Vision is the most important thing while driving. 20% of crashes are caused by drinking and driving. There are so many ways we could avoid this and yet we do nothing or make little effort in change. Driver education is also important because it is shown that people who take driver’s education are 75% less likely to get a traffic ticket. 24% are less likely to get involved in an injury accident. 16% are less likely to even have an accident.

Steps to reducing the number of deaths in driving are talking about it. We shouldn’t just talk to kids about it, but talk about it with adults. Adults are role models for the next generation, if a teen sees an adult drinking they’re going to think it’s okay to drink. We need to take action by going to high schools and colleges and talking about the dangers of driving. Another way we could help with deaths in driving is when someone goes to a bar the bartender takes the keys and can give the keys back if the bartender thinks the person is okay to drive and call an Uber if the person is too drunk. Some more steps are, making more websites, creating social media accounts, and creating advertisements.

I have never experienced being in a car accident, but I do know a friend who has been in a car accident. She was driving with her mom going home when they saw a person driving on the wrong side of the road. The other person in the car was drunk. After he ran into them my friend was in the hospital for a week. Sadly her mom passed away. This is why we need to be educated more about the safeties of driving. My friend lost her mom at the age of 10 due to a person being drunk and thinking it was okay to drive.

There are many steps to being a better driver and helping others stay safe on the road. Knowing the laws of the road is very important when driving and being safe. Not only does it help us be safe on the road but it helps us be able to avoid getting a ticket because we know the rules of the road. Make sure everything in our car is working properly, for example, if the brakes aren’t working like they should take the car into the shop to get it fixed because broken brakes are not safe. Helping others is very important but safety should come first. If someone is on the side of the road with a flat tire instead of helping them yourself call AAA for them as many deaths involved in driving are due to problems on the road. We learned about this family that got a flat tire and they all came out of the car. The mom and two children sat to the side waiting for the car to get fixed while the dad was fixing the tire. The dad sat the plate to the side and began fixing the car when another car came and accidentally ran over the plate, the plate flew and killed the mom and both of the children. Where yes it’s nice to help others we should put safety first. That’s why we are taught to put our oxygen mask on first then help others with theirs, you can’t help people if you’re dead.

It’s important to stay safe in driving and be aware of the dangers of driving. Knowing what you’re doing is so important in driving and being a safe driver. Overall we should take driver education because we learn a lot from it and can help us make choices on the road and help us become better drivers.
