Driver’s Education and Safety Essay
According to the United States Department of Transportation, in the year 2020, there were an estimated 38,680 fatalities that resulted from motor vehicle accidents. That is a 7.2 percent increase from the previous year. This is quite concerning considering we spent less time driving in 2020 due to the global pandemic. These numbers just go to show the growing importance of driver education, driver safety, and simply following the rules of the road. In this essay I will discuss the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving, steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving, my family’s experience with car accidents, and steps that everyone can take to become better, safer drivers.
First, I will be discussing the importance of driver education in terms of reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving. As a minor, in order to even receive a permit, you need to have passed some sort of driver’s education course. You can’t even begin driving without basic knowledge in regards to driving. This is done in order to make sure that you are only allowed on the road if you have driver’s education in order to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving. Being educated as a driver is really important in making sure that you don’t cause an accident that can result in one or more deaths or injuries. If you are educated on driving it is less likely that you will cause a major accident that will have a catastrophic outcome.
Next, I will be discussing some steps that can be taken in order to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving. The first thing that can be done is following the rules of the road. Far less accidents would occur if everyone followed the rules of the road which would largely reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving. This would include not texting while driving, not driving while under the influence, and not driving while distracted. Drivers should place their full attention on the road in order to prevent deaths. Also you should make sure everyone is safe inside the vehicle. All passengers should have a seat belt on, younger passengers should be placed in car seats, and younger passengers should be seated in the back of the car. Passengers should also make sure not to distract the driver. One distracting passenger can easily cause a car accident which can end in fatalities. Everyone in the car should work together to make sure the journey is completed safely.
While I have personally never been involved in a car accident, accidents that my close family members have been in have affected my family greatly. An example occurred when I was just two years old, and my brother was five. My mom had planned to run a few errands, and my brother and I wanted to join her. Hoping to make her errands quick and productive, she opted to leave us behind. While she was out on the road, she was involved in a car accident. The other driver had run a stop sign and crashed straight into the back side of the car, crushing the back seats. Luckily, my mom came out of the accident uninjured. However, if my brother and I had been in the back seats, we would have been terribly injured or even worse. It would have all been caused by the inability of one person to follow the rules of the road.
Finally, I will be discussing some steps that should be taken by everyone to become better, safer drivers. The first thing that can be done is getting educated on driver safety. As I discussed before in an earlier paragraph, being educated on driving is important. Staying educated on the topic of driving can help us all become better, safer drivers. Drivers should also work together on the road. Learn how to be aware of your surroundings to notice other driver’s who are driving either recklessly or distracted. One final suggestion is to practice driving. One can always become a better driver, and no matter how experienced, you are never too good to practice. This can ensure that you are the best driver you can be to ensure the safety of yourself and others while on the road.
In conclusion, I have discussed the importance of driver education in reducing the number of driving related deaths, steps that can be taken to reduce the number of driving related deaths, my family’s experience with car accidents, and steps that can be taken by everyone to become better, safer drivers. I hope my essay has provided you with more knowledge that you had before and has encouraged you to participate in better driving practices.
