Why Driver Education is Important

This topic has captured my interest and attention as I, myself am a young driver gaining more and more experience every day. I strongly feel that driving education is very important and could make a change in drivers today for the fact that it allows drivers on the road to be safer. Being more educated while being on the road would allow drivers to be more aware of what they should be doing as well as what they should avoid if they see anything dangerous around on the road. This allows for drivers to be more alert while driving, causing less deaths as well as less car accidents. I also believe that taking the Drivers Ed courses would benefit those about to become drivers. The reason is that they take time with each individual and teach them the correct way of driving on the road. Testing their knowledge on the road in multiple ways whether is a test on paper or them driving around.

The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to car accidents is by avoiding anything risky on the road and driving with caution at all times. The most common ways people get into car accidents are due to people driving distracted and driving intoxicated. So, what should be done instead is to be predictable of what’s up ahead of you, avoid being on your phone while driving or any other distractions, drive only if you feel like you are in a good state of mind and rested, and should never drive while intoxicated. Overall, just follow all rules and regulations that way the driver and those around the driver are safe.

I have not experienced being in a car accident nor have witnessed my friends do so. What I have experienced is other drivers in general not driving safely or following the laws. For instance, when there’s a stop sign, I have seen multiple cars not fully stop in the evening looking if there are pedestrians around trying to cross. Two big driving violations that I see the most are drivers on their phone and speeding and in some instances, both at the same time. I see this quite a bit on my street since it’s a busy street and always see cars speeding through. Which should not be happening for the reason that it’s not allowed and it’s extremely dangerous. Especially in a neighborhood area since that is the area where people are around on the streets the most. Not to mention it’s also a school zone with kids frequently walking these streets. This creates lots of fear for parents and an unsafe feeling for kids.

Some actions you can take to be a better driver is to follow all driving regulations not sometimes but at all times. It doesn’t hurt to be extra cautious and safe. It’s also best to take your time while driving to your destination because it’s better to be late than to be sorry. Be thoughtful of the fact that if you’re not following the laws, you are possibly putting others driving on the road around you or people in the car at risk. This leads on to how you can help others be safe as well. Do to the fact that if you’re being safe on the road others can do the same and just proceed on to do so. But let’s say for example, someone is speeding on a sharp turn turning right, driving in the middle of the line. Which is not even on the lane which is not allowed. The car turning left to take that sharp turn might have to swerve off the road to avoid getting hit. When someone is not doing the right thing on the road it could cause a domino effect for the rest of the cars because they try to avoid a collision. So being safe on the road starts with you and should be everyone’s main focus while driving. Like I had mentioned, the domino effect is greatly visible on the roads. Speaking from experience recently, I was driving up behind an accident that had already happened and was trying to get through. Wondering at some point if I was even going to be able to get through. Due to one of the vehicles that was part of the incident was blocking part of the street. Cars started coming up behind me and didn’t move either up until one car started and got through. That’s when the other cars and I as well started to move. We are influenced by others on the road and are a sort of a guide to one another in a way. So, we have to be a safe and responsible driver to model the correct and accurate behavior that should be used on the roads.
