Reasons Why Everyone Should be a Safe Driver

Everyone should be required to take driver training, as this would reduce the number of deaths. If more people know the facts of driving deaths, people would be inclined to act more carefully. This can happen by making the facts more widely available and posted places that is accessible to everyone. When students first start driving, they should be given this information so they are aware of the risks of driving. To reduce the number of deaths, billboards can be posted to warn drivers that they should not text and drive, nor should they drive with alcohol in their system.

When people find out that it is more dangerous in our country to drive than serve in a war. People may be more apt to carpool which will reduce the number of cars on the road, resulting in fewer deaths. Many people do not take driving as seriously as they should and drive before they are allowed to. When teens do this, they are unaware of the risks on the road. Also, people become more and more distracted. There are so many screens we have the ability to put in front of our eyes and it is very tempting to do so while driving. We listen to loud music, have watches, phones, and screens in our cars to mess with while we should be focusing on the road. This is incredibly dangerous because we may not hear a siren. Everyone also tends to drive over the speed limit. This lessens our reaction time to stop for a pedestrian and other things blocking the roadway.

Even if you are a good driver, others are not. Sometimes the biggest harm in the road is other drivers who are hazardous. They could be under the influence, or simply not paying attention. You must be aware of other drivers and looking out for the unexpected. Anything could happen at any moment. Just because the light is green does not mean it is safe to go. Sometimes, the safest drivers are new drivers as they are newly introduced to the rules and facts of the road. As we grow older and more experienced, we forget all the important things we should know. It is vital that these rules and facts be retold throughout our driving careers. They should be told as we renew our license every couple of years.

I have witnessed friends and family driving irresponsibly on several occasions. Friends typically use their phones while driving and I have ridden with family under the influence. This was not a wise decision, however, I did not have any other options. Being under the influence is very dangerous for not only everyone in the car, but other drivers on the road. One mistake can cost you the life of many people. Your decision-making is impaired when you are under the influence which can reduce your reaction time. When your eyes are in front of a screen, you are captivated by its addiction causing you to not be totally aware of your surroundings; this is a requirement for being behind the wheel. As a result, it is incredibly dangerous to be on your phone while driving. We think we can get away with looking down at our phone for a second to change the music, or send a quick text, however, all it takes is one second to miss something big on the road. Someone’s brother from my former school recently got in a terrible accident. He looked at his phone for one second and missed a semi, and the next thing he knows, he was being flown to a hospital in a bigger city, fighting for his life. He could have hurt others on the road, as well as his little brother who was in the car wih him. Within seconds, this family was struck with an overwhelming tragedy.

In order for me to be a safe driver, I need to send all texts before getting on the road, and not change the music while I am driving. It is ok to not be in control of the songs every second. It is worth it to wait because you might regret it later. To help others be safer, I will encourage people I ride with to not be on their phone while driving me. I will also refuse to ride with someone who is under the influence. I will stay off my phone while driving and hopefully set a good example for everyone who rides with me.

In conclusion, it is vital to stay away from distractions while driving. Tragedy can strike at any moment. It is better to be safe than sorry.
