Don’t
Be THAT Driver!
Have
you ever wondered, what causes accidents? Yes, indeed you have, of
course, everyone has. The problem with distracted driving is that at
the moment while we’re doing it, it doesn’t go through our mind
how chaotic it would be if something bad would happen. The importance
of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths brings awareness
to the community to avoid any distractions to keep us from causing
more accidents. Any accident can be prevented before hand if only we
can focus on the road. In this generation we’ve been so caught up
with technology it has been the main cause of accidents. Every year
1.6 billion people are victims of accidents from distracted driving.
These drivers were said to be texting and driving. I may be
underestimating the situation in a fundamental attribution error but,
I don’t blame myself. There are many ways people can avoid these
problems. In order to prevent these accidents, people need to know
the importance of keeping a safe environment. For example, an action
a driver can take is, setting their phone on “DO
NOT DISTURB”
or in driving mode. Another way we can prevent accidents is by
showing young teen drivers the importance of staying aware of their
surroundings while diving. For example, my school brought in Every
15 Minutes
Program and that changed student’s perspectives and helped them
realize how it would affect not only them, but their friends and
family. Personally, I have not been a victim of a car accident nor do
I want to. However, I have witnessed multiple car crashes and they
have been insane. Being a safe driver consists of many
responsibilities and I believe that if you can’t follow the basic
rules to being a safe driver, you shouldn’t be fit to drive. As
rough as it may sound, the main concern for the people is to have a
safe environment and to have a hazard free road. We can all take
action by keeping our phones out of sight while driving so we don’t
have the temptation to check our notifications. All in all, texting
and driving is a danger to society and we should all pay attention to
the roadway no matter the circumstances.
