Asphalt
Graveyard

The
thousands of miles of roads in America have become a graveyard for
all citizens. Driving has become a natural or even mandatory action
in our modern society. Yet this common action of driving has already
led to thousands of deaths and rising even higher. As the world
continues to evolve and grow, it becomes even more important for
drivers to take the necessary steps to drive safely and prevent any
more deaths from occurring on the road.

Driver
education is the first in a series of steps to ensure drivers are
operating their vehicles responsibly and safely. The basic knowledge
of driving helps people learn the rules of the road and the possible
dangers lurking in every direction of the road. All of these small
rules may seem trivial at first, but once they are on the road, all
of these rules, actions, and procedures must be followed to guarantee
safe driving. It is especially important to remember that the driver
is not the only one in danger when they are operating a vehicle. Any
passengers riding in the same vehicle becomes the driver’s
responsibility, their lives are in the hands of the driver. They have
no control over the vehicle, only the driver can operate the vehicle.
Not only the passengers of that vehicle, but the other automobiles
sharing the road are in just as much danger. Everyone involved is
hurt in some way, whether it be physically, mentally, or even
financially. Just imagine a driver with family members in the car
going down a road in their automobile, however, the driver ignores
the basic rules of the road for an instant and collides with another
car. The impact of the crash leaves no one unscathed. The young
passengers of the vehicle are the most vulnerable, their fragile
bodies are at risk of injuries that may be permanent for the rest of
their lives. If they had been even more unfortunate, their young
lives may have been lost forever before they could live a full life.
The older passengers might be luckier, but they too could have lost
their lives in an instant. All of this could have been avoided had
the driver remembered the importance of the rules of the road.

My
family was once in a car collision years ago. My older sister had
just picked up my other older sister from the high school prom when
they collided with another vehicle on the freeway. Thankfully, there
were no serious injuries from either side, but what was supposed to
be a night of dreams had almost ended up as a nightmare. The simplest
ways to become a better driver is to always follow the rules of
driving and remember the basic knowledge of the road. Continue to
practice being a safe driver, no matter how much experience one has.
In the future, if everyone can learn to always drive safely, then
there will no longer be anymore deaths on the roads that connect our
country together.
