Driving Is Important
Driving can be scary,
especially if you’re the one in the driver’s seat for the first
time. You should always have a parent or guardian with you at all
times when learning how to drive, they know a lot more about driving
than you. There are many driving education programs you can take
such as the Mercy Injury Prevention Center in Springfield, MO. Here,
they teach you the importance of driving safely, the consequences of
distracted driving, fast driving, and reckless driving. It is scary
to know your life can be ended in a heartbeat if you are not careful.
It is very important in knowing how to drive safely and correctly or
else you could get in a bad wreck. For example, if you don’t know
to not swerve when slamming on your breaks—like preventing hitting
a deer, or a big dog– you could end up in a wreck. Let’s strive
to reduce the number of deaths specifically because of not knowing
what to do on the road.
There
are a number of steps that can be taken to reduce the number of
deaths related to driving. One, do not drink and drive. Get a
trusted buddy who is sober to drive you back home. Two, do not be on
drugs and drive. Did you know that,”Some
studies suggest regular marijuana use in adolescence is associated
with altered connectivity and reduced volume of specific brain
regions involved in a broad range of executive functions such as
memory, learning, and impulse control compared to people who do not
use.”* Three, put the phone down. If you absolutely have to call
someone or text someone, simply pull over. Lastly, always be
watchful of your surroundings. When driving at dark on a country
road; always look to the sides of the road for deer. Know when
someone is about to pull out in front of you or not stop at a light.
Just because you have the green light, doesn’t always mean it’s
safe to go.
I
personally have not been a car wreck but I have come very close in
getting in a few. The first time I was paying attention. The second
one I almost came in hitting the car in front of me because I was
more focused on the car behind me. The third time, I went a bit too
fast in an a roundabout and knocked off the hubcap on my tire.
Unfortunately, I have had a friend who passed away from driving too
fast. She was hill topping and hit a tree, her car caught on fire
and as a result she perished.
If
you have kids always be careful with what you are doing. Be extra
attentive because if you are not, not just you could get hurt but
your kids could get hurt as well. If you’re distracted for some
reason, just pull over and take a few breaths.
