The
Importance of Safe Driving
In
America there are many distracting applications and new technologies
that can lead to tragic deaths while driving. My mother taught me and
led by example to not use my cell phone while driving and even to not
tamper with the radio. I have never been in a distracted driving
accident but when I was younger a friend’s father would play games
and check his social media while driving which did not make me feel
safe. I always make sure to turn on my music and answer text messages
before I start to drive but if I have a friend in the car, I will ask
them to change the song or answer any messages on my phone. To make
sure my friends are safe drivers I will do the same for them because
not only is my friends’ lives in danger, so is mine.
Driving
education is important when it comes to reducing the number of deaths
due to driving. Having an education about the rules of driving
already makes a person a safer driver. During drivers education is
when I learned about meanings of road signs, how to drive in bad
weather conditions, and all the laws I need to follow. If someone
doesn’t have an education about driving it puts his and her life
and other lives in great danger. I think having a driving education
class in college should be required. Not only do people turn
twenty-one during college but there are many cases of underage
drinking. Having a course to reteach students how to be safe and to
show alternatives so there are not any cases of drunk driving.
Learning
about safe driving is a great way to know how to reduce chances of
accidents but there are also many personal steps that can be taken
too. Previously I mentioned that I don’t use my phone or tamper
with radio while driving. An easy step would be to make sure that all
of car’s occupants are buckled in. In case of a car accident a
buckle can prevent a person from flying through the windshield or
hitting his or her head on the back of a seat. Another easy step is
to always make sure to check surroundings, if there are semitrucks,
wild animals, objects that are flying in the road, and even other
drivers who might be distracted. Driving is the easiest way of
transportation but can also be the deadliest if not done correctly.
