Who I am as a driver

My name is Deidre Hall and I recently got my driver’s license in May 2023. In my opinion, driver education is extremely important. I have noticed a lot of reckless driving and crashes on the highways and I believe that proper education can help prevent these incidents. Driver education is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that individuals have the necessary knowledge and skills to drive a car safely and responsibly. This includes understanding traffic laws and regulations, defensive driving techniques, and basic car maintenance. Driver education equips drivers with the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to potential hazards, and to make informed decisions when faced with unexpected issues.

There are indeed numerous things that one can do to ensure responsible and safe driving. Some of these things may include avoiding any kind of distraction while driving, such as loud music or overzealous passengers. It’s also important to never drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as impaired driving can lead to serious accidents and injuries. Another good practice is to never use your phone while driving, either by talking on the phone or texting. If you need to communicate with someone while driving, use carplay or bluetooth to do so. There is also the benefit of promote safe driving practices through public education campaigns. These campaigns can help raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving. Arming the younger generation about the risks of reckless driving, could ensure that new teen drivers are protected from fatal accidents. Another key step is to improve road infrastructure, including the installation of safety features such as guardrails, traffic lights, and road signs. Additionally, stricter enforcement of traffic laws can help to dishearten dangerous driving behaviors. This can include increased police patrols, speed cameras, and sobriety checkpoints. There are also the new age cars that have automatic breaks and other computerized features that alert their drivers of any accidents on the highways and gives them safer routes. These cars also have collision avoidance systems, and driver monitoring systems geared towards preventing unecessary crashes and fatalities. By taking these precautions, individuals can help to promote safe driving practices and prevent accidents on the road.

I have had a lot of friends and family who have had car accidents and narrowly escaped death. The one first that comes to mind would be my sister and my older cousin they ended up in a pile up from all sides. They were hit from behind which caused a domino effect of sorts. They ended up hitting a car in front of them which procured them a few injures like a concussion and broken arm. Another situation I heard about was an old friend of mine in high school who died at the age of 20 from a car crash. It was raining that day and she skidded of the road and hit a pole. The impact instantly killed her. This situation didnt happen because of another driver however, it made me more aware of myself. I will never forget this and will use this as a teachable moment to never indulge in any kind of reckless driving behavior. A lot of my friends and family drive recklessly and whenever they leave the house or they go out, Im always concerned for their safety.

There are several steps I can take to become a better and safer driver, as well as help others become safer on the road. First, I will make sure to always follow traffic laws and regulations. This includes driving at safe speeds, obeying traffic signals and signs, and using turn signals when changing lanes or turning. I will avoid any kind of distraction while driving and keep my attention focused on the road and my surroundings. I am always going to wear my seatbelt and ensure that all my passengers in my car do the same. Fourth, Make sure that my car is in good condition, including regular maintenance checks, tire inflation, and brake inspections. Finally, I will be a responsible and courteous driver by keeping a safe distance from other vehicles, yielding to pedestrians and bicyclists, and signaling my intentions to other drivers. I must set a good example to allow others to become safer on the road and encourage them to practice safe driving. I can also participate in community education campaigns or volunteer with organizations that promote safe driving. By working together, we can help reduce accidents and injuries on the road, and make our communities safer for everyone.
