Being a good driver is a goal than everyone should have because if everyone is a good driver then there will be no more accidents, injures and loss of life. Many times car accidents can be avoided by being a good driver and if everyone does so there would be no accidents.

To be a good driver one must be attentive and follow the rules. Trying to drive at the speed one is comfortable at and avoid speeding as certain road have more obstacles than others. Going at high speed on the obstacle filled roads means that there is less reaction time which means a greater possibility of a car accident and there isn’t enough time to make the right decision. Hence speeding is highly harmful as it can potentially lead to a greater risk of car accidents. Always remember that speed limits are only for ideal conditions and if the conditions are not ideal then the speed limit is not ideal as well. Driving at high speed during rain can lead to hydroplaning and other hazards so that is why being comfortable with the speed one is going at and following the speed limit is best for everyone’s safety.

It is essential to follow the basics carefully, such as checking the side mirror, back mirror and out of the window at a 90 degree angle before changing lanes. This ensures that there is no vehicle too close and there is space for your vehicle. This helps avoid crashes during lane changes. Also check if a vehicle in front or behind in the other lanes has their indicator towards the lane you are going to change to; and if this is true make sure to coordinate your timing so that the lance change doesn’t occur at the same time. This helps avoid two vehicles going in the same spot hence preventing crashes. It is necessary that every good driver masters lane changes, even without technology, as they occur at very high speed and can lead to disastrous results.

Being attentive also has another aspect which is focusing on the road , this encompasses not eating or drinking while driving, avoiding being on one’s phone when driving, avoid driving when continuously being distracted from the road as a moments concentration can cost lives.

Another aspect of being a good driver is that one is always attentive to prevent incidents before they happen and this can be done by always checking one’s car for damage or leakage before driving as it will ensure that the vehicle is in good condition, always wearing the seatbelt as it can help prevent injuries during then crash, follow directions and let children have a booster seat and make sure they sit in the back as the air bags in the front seat may be dangerous for them.

Driver education can make one aware of driver guidelines as well as teach young drivers how to drive safely in case of an accident or vehicle malfunction. This is an important part of learning how to drive is to have full control of the vehicle in these emergency cases which if not taught can lead to multiple fatality and injury. These include break malfunction, steering malfunction, etc.

Following the alcohol use and drug use limits is also necessary to avoid unnecessary accidents. As these chemicals affect are decision making ability and vision to a certain extent and this may lead to a disastrous result when driving. Sometimes sleep deprivation might be the same way and lead a person to fall asleep while driving and also relax their vigilance, leading to more crashes and accidents. It is best not to drive when one is sleep deprived.

It is also necessary that if one cannot see clearly without the help of glasses that they wear them to make sure they don’t miss something due to lack of perfect vision. It will make objects less blurry and help make the most informative and the best decision for everyone’s safety.

Personally the closest thing I have witnessed to an accident is during an attempt to overtake the driver of the car came really close to a truck and lost one side mirror due to this accident. This could have been an accident however everyone was saved, this showed me the importance of safely lane changing and also trying not to enter the blind spot of large vehicles as it is dangerous. This has also lead me to be a safer driver overall and not be impulsive while driving.
