Driving Education
Driving education is especially important when reducing the number of deaths caused by driving. I have had firsthand experience of the harm that a lack of driver’s education can cause. I was driving to practice for my collegiate softball team at National Park College. As I turned the corner on a street, I traveled every day. Bam! I was hit. The lady hit me so hard that I spun out in the opposite direction I was traveling from, and she flipped. She had run a stop sign while speeding and being distracted by her phone. Luckily, others around us were exemplifying good driver’s education and nobody else was harmed in this accident. From this experience, I find the extreme importance of ensuring everyone on the road is educated with the necessary skills, knowledge, and responsible attitudes needed to be safe on the road.
First off, driver education teaches people the rules of the road. Understanding traffic laws and regulations is crucial for everyone’s safety. By knowing and following these rules, drivers can minimize the risk of accidents and collisions. Secondly, driver education provides practical training behind the wheel. It helps individuals learn how to handle different driving situations such as changing lanes, parking, and merging onto highways. This hands-on experience helps build confidence and improves decision making skills while driving. Additionally, drivers’ education educates individuals about the dangers of impaired driving. Impaired driving is a major cause of accidents on the road. Many of the fatalities and or bodily injuries that come from accidents do not affect the one that has been drinking. Additionally, distracted driving can consist of using a mobile device, reading, programming a GPS, and speeding. Drivers’ education highlights the severe consequences of these behaviors, such as accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. By raising awareness and promoting responsible driving habits, driver education helps reduce the number of deaths caused by reckless behavior. There are various steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. However, here are a few of the important ones. Always buckle up. Wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest and most efficient ways to protect yourself in case of an accident. Also, if you are driving make sure you not only you but all your passengers are properly buckled up before putting the car in drive. Additionally, to reduce the number of deaths related to driving you need to avoid distractions while you are driving. Keep your focus on the road and avoid any distractions such as your phone, eating, or engaging in other activities. They take your attention away from driving. You need to stay focused while you are driving to prevent accidents. Moreover, do not drink and drive. Alcohol seriously impairs your judgement and reaction time. Making it extremely dangerous to drive under the influence. If you plan to drink, make sure you have a designated sober driver or use an alternate transportation option. Furthermore, following the speed limit. Speeding significantly increases the risk of accidents and reduces your reaction time to unexpected situations. Lastly, another way to reduce the number of deaths by driving is by practicing defensive driving. Being aware of your surroundings, anticipating potential hazards, and maintaining safe distance from other vehicles, defensive driving helps the driver to react quickly to avoid dangerous situations.
A few ways in which you can become a better and safer driver is by staying focused and avoiding distractions while driving. Putting away your phone, limiting multitasking, and keeping your attention on the road will create a better situation for you as a driver. As I stated, practicing defensive driving and being aware of your surroundings will give you more time to react and avoid accidents as a driver. Additionally, obey traffic laws and speed limits. They are there for a reason, to keep everyone safe, so make sure to follow them and be a responsible driver. Lastly, regularly check your vehicle, your tires, your brakes, and lights to ensure it is working in good condition. This will help prevent breakdowns and keep you and others safe on the road. By taking these steps, you can become a better and safer driver and help others become safer on the road. Let us all work together to create a safer driving environment for everyone.
I would be thrilled to receive the Driver Education Initiative Award – Annual Scholarship because I feel that it would help me achieve the academic goals I have set for the next chapter of my life, as well as the personal goal of graduating from college debt free! Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
