Driver Education in Safety
In this essay, I have listed the expectations, importance, the steps to take, my personal experience, and lessons from being a driver and seeing how others drive. The expectations of a driver are to be educated, maintaining their personal vehicles, following the rules of the road, and safety of themselves and their passengers. Education for a driver can be through their schools’ driving instructors, guardian or parents, and by reading the guide that the DMV provide for that state. Your vehicle, just like yourself, needs maintenance to be “healthy” and to preform to its best ability. Checking the alignment, rotating the tires, doing oil changes every so often, pumping gas into your vehicle, cleaning the inside and outside, and so on and so forth. The rules of the road are in the guide book the DMV provides, such as, stopping at red lights, knowing when you have the “right away” or not, being aware of pedestrians while driving, and telling which signs on the road means what. Safety is especially important, who gets to sit in the front seat or back seat, who is able to get in your vehicle while you are driving, and wearing seatbelts at all times. The importance of driver education is reducing the number of deaths and being safe by driving responsibly. Education reduces deaths, by the result of vehicle accidents and wrecks, that is why schools offer driver education classes and experience to those who attend Drivers Education course classes. Even when you are able to drive on your own, every good driver needs to know how to adjust to their surroundings and situations. And no, this cannot be taught by someone else other than yourself, obstacles that appear in your way are a learning experience for the driver. Obstacles of driving can be an ambulance or EMT trying to get through, a police car pulling someone over on the side of the road, weather, and avoiding or being in a car accident. Weather is difficult to master in driving, and yes you can avoid it, but weather is unpredictable and can force you to not avoid it. In the rain, you are prone to hydroplaning, sliding, and possibly getting into a wreck. To avoid such things, do not go over the recommended speed limit, do not drift, and make sure to press on your brakes early and your gas pedal gently. Not following any safety procedures or not being cautious can lead a driver into a car accident or even death of themselves, their passengers, damage to their vehicles and cargo, and damage to others. Even though I have not personally been in an accident before, I have heard and went to scenes of vehicle accidents. One of my family members has been in an accident before, it was not my fault, as the motorcyclist hit me. Weather could have been the reason for this accident to occur because it was raining, although the motorcyclist was speeding and their brakes locked up due to that, and both of us were not injured. Another experience, my friend accidentally hit another friend’s vehicle when they were backing out of a parking space and bent their back bumper. Again, no injuries and the damage were not serious enough to pay for extreme repairs, just minor cracks and scratches. The irresponsibility of the motorcyclist and my friend have led them to these incidents, whether or not they were hurt, injured, having damaged vehicles, or their experience is completely irrelevant. Before their accidents, they did not prepare nor did they show signs of cautious to their environment. Being a good driver is following the law, knowing how to drive, and learning from experience. People that have taught me to drive have done all these expectations, they have helped me while being the passenger, telling me how to turn, put my turning signal on, windshield wipers, change the oil, and so much more. I help others by letting them see how I drive, while talking to them the safety of the road, I show them how I park, how far you should be from a stopped car, how to pump gas, and do the maintenance on the vehicle. As a current driver, I have been taught by my school driving instructors, my mom, my dad, and by myself. Even though I have been driving for years now, any kind of weather, vehicle accident, or someone else’s irresponsibility and my own can become deadly if I am not careful or prepare for these situations. I cannot, nor can anyone else, control the actions of others we can control what ourselves do. Being educated, following the rules of not just the guidebook on how to drive but the people that are educated to teach you, maintain your vehicle, being aware of your surroundings, and making mistakes that you have learned from. All of these factors can help reduce the number deaths you see on the road or in hospitals. These expectations, importance, steps to take, my experiences, and lessons a good driver guides to help others do the best they can while driving.
