Ways to Reduce Road Accidents
Driving is something that we all take for granted nowadays. We just expect to go with the flow of learning in drivers ed, going on our scheduled drives, and then we just get our licenses like it is no big deal; but in reality we are entrusted with a dangerous piece of machinery that is capable of doing massive amounts of damage. Irresponsible drivers are everywhere, causing accidents everyday just because they feel like other people will stop for them. It really is not that hard to have a little extra patience while driving, but some people just can not do it.
Driving deaths are extremely high in the United States. They are the highest they have been since the early 2000’s. There are many factors to why they are so high, but a big one is the lack of intense driver education. Nowadays people can just do driver education from their house on a computer and just not pay attention to it, leading to many new drivers to not know the rules of the road. Another factor that I have noticed that does not help is a lot of drivers being insanely impatient. From my experiences, I have been pulled out in front of at least 5 times in the last week. If I was not prepared for them to do so, I would have been in several accidents. There needs to be a stricter policy on peoples driving patience.
I have never been in a crash personally, but I have been pulled out in front of so many times. Along this, I noticed a lot of people disregarding the use of their turn signals. To me, I feel like it is not that hard to use the turn signal. It is one flick up or down regarding what direction you are turning. This one simple thing has caused so many accidents, it is unbelievable. People’s blatant disregard for this simple act is one of the most annoying things out on the road, and if everyone just used their turn signals then accidents would decrease. Another way that road safety could be increased is pulling people over more often for driving recklessly. There are a lot of people who will pull out in front of people on purpose because they know they will stop for them, they also know they can get away with this. So many people just pull out in front of people because they just selfishly assume people will stop for them. People need to be held more accountable for their reckless driving.
Driving on the road can seem to be easy, people probably do not think about it very much anymore. They just start driving and it is no big deal. Cars are giant pieces of machinery that are very dangerous and there is no telling what could happen on the road everyday. One mistake could lead to someone’s death. It is vitally important to make sure to follow all the road safety laws and communicate with other drivers. One of the smallest changes that everyone can make on the road is to just have a little more patience. Too many people are in a rush or just inconsiderate, so many wrecks are caused because people refuse to have any patience on the road or are just unaware. If everyone just had a little bit of self awareness and patience road accidents would decrease significantly.
A way they could enforce this type of training into new drivers is to make sure that driver’s education instructors make sure students learn to drive the patient way. Make sure they are cautious in their driving, being considerate for others, and not just go when they think they can. A lot of drivers will just hit the gas when they have the right away, but it is a lot better to slowly lay on their gas pedal and make sure everyone around them is aware that they are planning to be the next person to go. Specifically at four way stops. Driving cautiously is safer and easier for everybody. People just need to accept that they are not the most important person on the road and not everything is about them.
In conclusion, driving related deaths are at an all time high due to impatient and selfish drivers. Everyone needs to calm down on the road, and use their turn signals. It is not that hard just to slow down on the roads and be a little bit smarter. If everybody did their part and slowed down a little bit, accidents would decrease significantly, without a doubt. Also cops need to pull over reckless drivers more often. Especially people who will pull out in front of people and turn in front of them. If these were all cracked down on then the roads would be a much safer place for everyone.
