It’s not worth it

Everytime you leave your house, think about the chances of coming back safely. Think about your loved ones and their journeys and how it could be ended in an instant by reckless driving. Can the way you drive one day affect your family or someone else’s? Driver’s education is urgently needed to teach drivers to be the most alert and aware of the streets to prevent accidents. Being behind the wheel can result in fatality if you don’t drive following guidelines that are meant to keep the roads safe.

Drivers education allows students to be taught in an environment where they can be introduced to driving in a correct manner. When I went to D and E driving school at 15 years old, I was taught by Ms. Garcia who’s voice is in my head when it comes to driving. The very 1st day of class the whole class cried from her telling us how she had been hit by a reckless driver and resulted in her almost dying. That alone made me realize the huge threat that comes with driving reckless. It made me want to learn the right way to prevent myself from getting into an accident. Ms. Garcia explained every guideline in the book and when it was time to drive she didn’t just teach us how to drive, she taught us the dangers and how not to be the danger on the road. It’s vital to make the roads safe for future generations by starting with teaching this generation to drive the speed limit and to not road rage.

Your actual vehicle can be the reason you crash today. Don’t procrastinate getting an inspection to make sure your car is up to date. Rotate your tires, check your brakes and head/tail lights. Make sure your tires are appropriate to the weather or place you are driving at. Take in consideration the weather and how fast you should be going and the distance you should be at from the car in front of you. Your headlights are vital at night to see the road in front of you to prevent hitting anything. Remember your tail lights are what tells the drivers behind you that you’re there when they can’t see from the darkness and when you’re slowing or coming to a stop at any time. Make sure to keep your wiper blades working, keep windows clean and not over tinted to prevent obstruction of your view. It’s a lot to remember but just keep your head cool and have a right attitude to driving.

I have a deep connection to driving safely because I know the pain of losing someone from a mistake that could’ve been avoided. My brother got in a car accident from street racing that made him lose his life and made my family lose him. The other racer could’ve faced great consequences yet my family didn’t want to ruin two lives from this accident. My mom tells me all the time how she wishes she would’ve told him to slow down or to not street race. Speed is exhilarating but is it worth the pain you can cause? Everytime I drive down the road he took to end his life ,it hurts to think this could’ve been easily avoided if he had just gone home instead of engaging in a race . If he could’ve just decided to not be flashy, he wouldn’t have driven his Camero down into a ravine and he would be at home with his daughter. Every time you decide to drive fast please think about your sister, mother, cousin, friend, kids or even your dog. Don’t think you’re the person who “It” won’t ever happen to. Drive safe to make it home because some people never made it home from a simple mistake.

Don’t be the person to drive intoxicated because one ounce of alcohol is still a factor that can push you to end someone’s life. Before you hit drive make sure you and everyone in the car are wearing seatbelts because if you can’t control being hit by someone you could at least prevent flying out the window. Always be on your defense by looking at upcoming traffic and even the vehicles behind you. Drive like anything could happen at any moment because it really can. Make sure to think about all possible situations and your course of action. What will you do if your tire pops,if a deer runs in front of you,if your brakes go out, if a car brake checks you, and how do you avoid further collision if cars crash right in front of you? Be on the lookout for people who run red lights, stop signs and even yield signs because even if it’s your right of way don’t just drive make sure others don’t try to run their car and possibly hit you.

I worked and paid for my own drivers education class because I knew it was important to learn the correct way to drive. I got my permit to drive at 15 and my provisional license at 16. Now that I turned 18 I have renewed my license and got rid of the provisional restrictions. Despite my young age I haven’t been in an accident because of my education on how to drive aware, alert and on the defense. I sadly can’t say I haven’t had near occasions where reckless people almost cause me to crash because of illegal lane changes, running red lights, brake checks, clear drunk driving, or even cars crashing in front of me. Driver’s education is vital to drill into new generations of drivers to make sure they too understand the whole concept of driving safely to be able to get home. You can’t control the people driving around you but you can control your driving.
