Driver education plays a crucial role in reducing the number of deaths and accidents on the road. I was in a vehicle when my friend began to drive irresponsibly. She was going way over the speed limit, and later, I found out she was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. That night, we were on the way to the fair, so three other friends were in the car. At first, everything was good. There was no traffic, so we had a clear and safe road to travel on, but out of nowhere, the driver began to increase the vehicle’s speed rapidly. Everyone in the car continuously told her to slow down, but she kept saying, “There are no cops around. Everything will be okay.” That day was terrifying for my friends and me. Luckily, we arrived at our destination sound, and someone else took the wheel to avoid putting all the people in the vehicle in danger. The fact that all of us entered the car without knowledge that the driver was under the influence has impacted my trust. Since that day, I only drive myself places because I am scared that I will not make it out alive if that situation happens again. As drivers, the best thing we can remember is that road safety is a shared responsibility, and by adopting practices learned during driver’s education, you not only become a safer driver but also contribute to creating a safer driving environment for everyone on the road. By combining and adopting a holistic approach involving various stakeholders, it is possible to make significant progress in reducing the number of driving-related deaths. It requires collaboration between government agencies, law enforcement, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and the community to create a safer and more responsible driving environment.
