The Importance of Driving Education
Driving safely is one of the most important responsibilities a person can have. I have had my driver’s license for slightly over a year and have learned so much about the importance of being a safe driver. It is incredibly important that all drivers be educated on driving safely, so our roads can be a safe place. In my experience, having driver education helps me feel confident enough to get behind the wheel. I know that the knowledge I have received is incredibly valuable because it gives me the ability to make wise decisions while I am driving.
There are so many dangers that exist simply because we drive cars. This is a daily activity for the majority of people; unfortunately this common task ends the lives of many. However, driving education gives drivers the knowledge necessary to decrease the number of deaths caused by driving. Driving education teaches us how to be responsible and do everything in our control to keep everyone on the road safe. To reduce the number of driving-related deaths, drivers are responsible for not being under the influence or distracted by their phone. These are two issues that are responsible for the majority of deaths on the road. It is important for us as drivers to make sure we are not part of that problem. Unfortunately, many deaths on the road are not caused by the driver. That is why it is important to always be aware of our surroundings so we do not become or let our precious cargo become victims to drunk or distracted drivers. Driver education has taught me how to react to unstable drivers, unexpected weather conditions, and other uncertain situations. Though not all deaths are a person’s fault, many can be prevented by staying alert, aware, and always giving yourself a way out. Driving education has taught me to be hyper aware for the entirety of every drive. To put it simply, the best way to keep oneself and others out of danger is to constantly be on guard. It is important for drivers to always know who is around them. This includes the cars in front of us, behind us, and the ones we cannot see. Fortunately, I have never been in a car accident, but as a passenger I have been nervous for my safety. Luckily my parents have always tried to be the best examples they can be by demonstrating how to drive safely. However, some people around my age are not as aware as my parents and I try to be. There have been situations in which I was in the car with a friend who was not paying attention to the road as they should have. This includes instances such as texting someone back while driving or missing a turn and making a rash decision to correct their mistake. In these cases I have done my best to turn the situation into a safe environment. For example, when my friends pick up their phone to change the music, I offer to do it myself while reminding them of the importance of paying attention to the road. Personally I am always trying to be the best driver on the road. I never want to put myself or anyone else in a dangerous situation because of my actions. In every driving situation, I focus on what I learned in my driving courses and do my best to drive as safely as possible. I know that it is important to anticipate any circumstance that could change while driving. Unfortunately not everyone on the road is driving safely or predictably; therefore, it is important that I am aware so I never end up in a poor situation that could have been avoided. Moving forward, I want to continue to learn about the safety of driving while becoming better with every drive. In addition to helping myself, I want everyone but especially the ones I love to understand the importance of being an educated and safe driver. One person that I want to positively impact is my little sister. My younger sister Katelyn is fifteen years old and received her permit a few months ago. As she learns how to drive, I want her to pay attention to and absorb all the information presented to her in her driving course. In addition to her official instruction, I strive to be a great example to her of what safe driving looks like. I love and care about her, so I want her to be aware of how to safely drive so that she never puts herself or others in danger. I hope that every driver can appreciate the great responsibility that driving is. It is my aim for drivers to remember those that they love while driving and know that they are affecting others everytime they get behind the wheel. Having a concrete driving education is extremely important to ensuring that we are all safe when we are on the road.
