Driver Education Round 1

The importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths because of driving, risk and awareness, and hazard perception is one of them. Enforcing and hitting the nail on the hazards and risks that can happen on the road while teaching the students taking Drivers Ed class is important. Make sure that the instructor who’s running the course keeps the students engaged and makes the instruction as real and engaging as possible. The important reason is that the students taking the course just show up to show up, the driver’s lesson can be a drag and not as engaging so they may miss those important details. By increasing awareness of these dangers, drivers are better equipped to anticipate and respond to hazardous situations, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents. Also making sure that they understand the consequences of reckless behavior, by highlighting the potential legal, financial, and emotional ramifications of such behaviors, driver education aims to deter individuals from engaging in risky actions behind the wheel. I remember when I was taking the Drivers Ed course in high school, they showed videos of the repercussions of drunk driving, texting while driving, etc. and that scared me enough to know to always drive as if I have a police officer riding along with me. Numerous steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving such as enforcement of Traffic Laws, increased police presence, and use of technology such as speed cameras and breathalyzer tests can deter reckless behavior and promote compliance with road regulations. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I leave my apartment complex to head to work and so many people are going over the speed limit or illegally making turns at the red light and there’s no police officer in the area to catch them. There should be more traffic cops on duty to stand by and make sure the road is always safe. Implementing more education and awareness Campaigns can help as well, these programs should emphasize safe driving practices, the dangers of impaired and distracted driving, and the importance of adhering to traffic laws. The steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road is by following the traffic laws and always obeying the speed limits, traffic signals, and road signs. By avoiding distractions, refraining from using electronic devices, eating, or engaging in other activities that may take my attention away from the road. A lot of deaths have been resulting that way because a lot of teenagers and adults are always on social media and texting while on the road. There needs to be more laws in effect with people who are on the phone while driving. You should handle any text messages, phone calls, or changing your music while parked in a parking space not even when you’re at a red light because you can miss the light and cause a ruckus behind you with the other vehicles. Never drive under the influence, this is another common way accidents and deaths happen on the road, especially during holiday seasons. Never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that impairs your ability to drive safely. If you plan to drink, designate a sober driver, or use alternative transportation options. When I go out with my friends to any function, before we leave our destination, we always appoint two friends to be the Designated drivers which means out of the whole group of us, two of our friends must stay sober to make sure we get to our destinations safely. It also needs to be enforced at Bars or restaurants to cut people off once they have too many to drink or start asking customers if they are driving to note that. Maintain your vehicle, regularly inspect, and maintain your vehicle to ensure that it is in safe working condition. Check tire pressure, brakes, lights, and fluid levels regularly, and address any mechanical issues promptly. It’s important to keep your vehicle up to date because malfunction can happen at any given time while you are on the road which can cause trouble for you or any other person that is on the road. Before I bought my 2020 Kia Soul last year, I had a 2016 Ford Fiesta which was my first car, and I used to be so lazy about getting an oil change for it which resulted in my car stopping randomly in the middle of the road on 5 different occasions, luckily I have triple A and they came at a good time to help get me off the road but not everyone has that luxury and those occasions could’ve resulted in the wrong way. Be considerate of others when you’re on the road, and show courtesy and consideration towards other drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists on the road. Yield the right-of-way when appropriate, use turn signals to communicate your intentions, and avoid blocking intersections or crosswalks. I myself have not been in a car accident in my cars however when I was in high school me and my family were involved in a very tragic car accident which resulted in all of us being in the hospital. The couple that rammed into the back of us didn’t have insurance and were texting while driving which totaled our SUV and it caused me bad PTSD which is why I always make sure I drive safely on the road.
