Changing bad Driving Habits

Driving education is really important in reducing deaths from driving, the more you learn how your bad decisions can affect yourself and others you will be more responsible while driving. Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths by driving is learning how to drive without distractions, driving with good decision making skills, and driving sober. My parents always have taught my brother and I to be careful operating a car because often people forget how dangerous it can be, and it is a very powerful machinery that can cause injuries and death.

Obviously driving is important and it is imperative to stay focused so any habits that distract me need to be resolved. There are many ways to create good habits from bad ones. There just needs to be consistency and self control. You can also think of better times or hand free ways of doing things for example putting on navigation before you drive or using a voice activated phone system like siri or alexa so you are keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. For long car rides I find myself trying to eat and drive which can be really dangerous, my replacement method for this is to prepare early and eat before I drive or pull over and find a place to eat. Often I don’t have time to stop to eat so I make sure to pack snacks that are very accessible and not distracting while driving.

Often when you hear about driving accidents a lot of the time young people are involved. Young people are more likely to be in an accident or cause one. Younger people are notoriously known for bad decision making skills because their brains are not fully developed and that adds an extra layer of risk as adults are not as likely to make those decisions. This is why as a younger person I keep that in mind. I know I will have a tendency to make bad choices but I just have to be more aware of if the decision I’m making is safe or not.

Another big reason for deaths by car accidents is the driver being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In the end it will be a life ending or changing for everyone involved, the drunk driver and the victim who is no longer alive. it ‘s important to remember that no matter what it is safer to not drive under the influence than anything. I have seen a crash before, possibly caused by drugs. We suspected this because when they crashed there was a lot of smoke coming from inside the car, we could be wrong but from the speed they were going to the way they reacted it seemed like they were in real trouble.it resulted in a possible injury from the person in the car they hit. I would be devastated to have caused someone an injury. It just reminds me that no matter what it is worth it to not drive while under the influence

I have almost been in an accident before when I was younger and my mom was driving me to soccer practice. She was distracted on her phone and at the last second swerved out of the way between two cars colliding. The two cars were wrecked and we realized that we could have almost been in an accident and potentially injured. Luckily nobody was hurt but you never know what could happen in different situations. This is another example of just how important it is to keep yourself from distractions while driving.

There are some people in my life that have bad driving habits and I think that the best way to help them become a more responsible driver is to take away their distractions, using their phone for them, helping them eat or drink. These are things you can help them do but ultimately it is their decision to put a stop to bad habits. It can help to show the person what can happen along with letting them learn from their mistakes.

Ultimately you have to have patience to deal with changing a bad habit into a good one. There are so many things I and others are tempted to do while driving but are going to be dangerous and risk everything. Reminding yourself that the phone call, music, food, text message are not as urgent or important as your focus really helps me change my habits. If something is more important than driving it is better to stop because driving requires full attention to the road and your surroundings. I have to remind myself that driving dangerously which can result in injury or death has more serious consequences than being late somewhere or speeding for fun.
