Importance of Driver Education

Driver education is an important aspect when learning to drive because the more educated an individual is the better equipped with knowledge and the safety know how to drive responsibly. A good way for a driver to get the education needed to be a safe driver is attending driving school. At the driving school they teach you better driving techniques, aware of the rules of the road. I often wondered if being a forty-one-year-old woman that does not drive partly out of fear so I would love to take a driver’s education at a driving school. I just do not know if they just offer driving school to young drivers or if they offer then to people my age. It is important for teens to learn to drive safely and responsibly because it only takes a second for accidents to happen.

Getting that education reduces the number of fatal accidents and violations, especially among young drivers. Because the laws and violations of these laws are taught and repetitively gone over to help students remember drilling these educational tools in their heads. A plus is that within their first two years of driving teens that are taking driver education classes are less likely to be involved in crashes. They are also less likely to get a traffic violation. This is an important tool that can be applied to reduce the number of deaths and practice safe driving methods because they are taught to be alert and to be precocious. Effective driver education and training would reduce the high crash rates of younger drivers.

Some of the steps that I believe could be taken to prevent the numbers of deaths related to driving. Like not allowing the usage of cell phones at all while operating a vehicle. And to prevent young drivers from getting behind the wheel after drinking any alcoholic beverage would be putting those breathalyzer machines that you have to blow into before you can start your car. They normally use that in repeat offenders that get more than one DUI. A lot of the solves have already been put in place maybe a little modification to them to make them more current updated. Technology is quite advanced and maybe some new invitations could be put into place to help monitor teenage drivers so we can better collect the data from those observations, and they will have results that could be used to find new and improved ways to make it safer to drive.

Many moons ago I took in these teenagers in, and they became like little brothers to the family and my little brother got into a car with a drunk driver and even worse he was riding in the very back area known as the hatch back area with no seat belt. They were driving back from up in the mountains when the driver lost control and flipped a few times until the car crashed into a telephone pole and my little brother was thrown from the hatchback. By the time paramedics reached them he already died on scene. Even though he was not my blood brother I watched him grow from a little kid all threw out his teenagers’ years. My brother never made it to his nineteenth birthday. It was ironic because he always used to joke around which always made me mad when he would say I’m not going to make it till I am nineteen.

It was heart breaking that he never got to experience life the way he should of, and I was upset for a long time because I could not understand what would make him get in that car knowing that the driver had been drinking already and was already too drunk to drive. And accidents like that happen all the time, that is why I have been so scared to learn to drive. I am a nervous person with anxiety and panic attacks and when I sit behind the wheel, I feel my chest tighten up. So, for the safety of myself and others I choose not to drive. I either use ride share apps, ask for rides, or take public transportation instead of getting behind the wheel and causing an accident. That is how I contribute to my community and keep them safe.

And I try to share my experiences with cars and why I do not drive and choose to use other means of transportation. Knowing yourself and what you are capable of and making the best decision for yourself and remembering to stay safe.
