Reckless drivers can have unforgivable consequences
Better driver education is an urgent importance. According to the NHTSA there are approximately 14,386 car crashes a day and correspondingly the same sources says there is 118 deaths. These are outrageous stats of potentially bad situations and a striking total number of deaths. These are people’s brothers sisters, mothers, and friends. This is at the fault of irresponsible, unconcerned and uneducated drivers. Which is why there has to be a change to driver education.
For starters I believe we should have free driving classes with an Instructor that is required by law. Persons must take 3 at minimum before you take your drivers license test. This would be a more progressive approach by trying to implement proper driving techniques before they are allowed on the road. Being able to get constructive feedback while actually driving can make participants more inclined to drive safer in the future. I think we should also provide better courses so that people can understand the heavy consequences that come with drinking and driving. Revisiting the NTSHA it says that “32% of fatalities in car crashes involve a drunk driver.” Theses are very preventable passings of human lives and I believe that starts with educating people. Drinking and driving related deaths does not only affect the the victim’s families but also the person who killed them. I think having a video In each course from the perspective of both sides will provide learning drivers substantial understanding of what there actions can cause. Stoping DUI’s would significantly drop the number of deaths.
Furthermore as important as education is my view is that education alone will not stop the number of deaths caused from driving. I think there needs to be more proactive laws in place to truly enforce the ideologies of safe driving. Like for example if there is some one with a DUI they should be penalized with more extreme measures because 58% of those people will reoffend and I believe that is due too the minimal penalty received for first offenders. Another preventive measure that can be taken is a 3 strike your out rule for excessive speeding or reckless driving. DUI are not the only cause of fatal accidents reckless and dangerous driving habits cause the other 68%. So, Once they have been ticketed for the 3rd time they should get there license revoked and they have to take a class as well as pay a fine. This way they will be more hesitant to drive irresponsibly. This will be done in hopes of stopping deaths in accidents.
This is a topic I am very passionate about due to the relation it has to my personal life. I have been involved in many car accidents all of them not my fault. most of them were not so serious thankfully but one of them leading me to having severe neck problems. I had to go to the chiropractor for several months and it’s is something I still deal with to this day. The driver who hit me decided to make an illegal u turn in the middle of a one way road and after he hit me he took off. Luckily I got a video of his face and license plate. After I reported it to the cops they had explained to me that he had left his car in the woods and that he had an extensive history of reckless driving and hit and runs. This is why I feel as though going through extensive courses, paying fines, and receiving more repercussions than what they are receiving currently can help solve this issue. If we do not make it a serious issue the offenders will never realize how serious it really it.
Grateful I never was in a fatal accident but as I voiced in the beginning of this essay a lot of peoples family members and friends have been. In my life that happened to be on of my cousins. She was driving on an intersection
When she got the green light when another driver decided to run the red light he was speeding and my cousin Ellie died instantly from impact. Only to found out later that the driver was intoxicated. In an instant two lives were changed forever. The guy who hit her will be in jail for a long time and my dear Ellie while never be able to return home from the store.
Driving is a privilege that some people don’t deserve but I feel through education for both before and after incidents occur could be very beneficial. Coming from personal experiences I know how bad the repercussions are for victims of reckless and dangerous drivers. My condolences go to those families that also had to experience something of that nature. Accidents are scary on their own but when this many fatal ones are that is an issue that needs to be resolved. I hope my suggestions can be taken into consideration.
