Drivers Education

There are many reasons why driver education is important. If you have obtained a permit or license you have gone through classes about learning the different laws and regulations about driving.

What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? Driver education can bring awareness to the effects of what can happen. For example, being on your phone while driving. Being on your phone can cause you to miss stoplights, stop signs, and unexpected traffic and pedestrians. If you hit a person, whether it was because they weren’t paying attention or you weren’t paying attention, you will be the blame because you are the driver.

What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? The first thing you can do is educate yourself. Make sure you’re aware of what can happen. Whenever you’re in the car with someone else who is driving, enforce the laws. However, do it respectfully and kindly. Enforce staying off the phone and keeping the speed limit. Offer to be the DJ if that’s why the driver continues going on their phone.

Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? Yes, I have been in a car accident myself. I was in fact driving with two other people in my car. The week before my car accident, I was in Florida on a school trip. I had no idea when I got back what the weather had been like during that previous week. It had snowed off and on, and there were a ton of icy spots all over the roads. I was fine on the way to school without any sliding or any issues. On my way home from school, it had started snowing. I was on an S curve when two large semi trucks passed me and blew a ton of snow in my windshield. I couldn’t see anything as I was turning and I hit a patch of black ice on the road and lost control. My car was sliding towards the ditch until we hit a big block of iced over snow from a snow plow. We flipped and rolled 2 ½ times down the ditch. When the car stopped moving, we were upside down and we all were in shock. Nobody died in my accident and I wasn’t driving irresponsibly. I was the only one sent to the ER by ambulance and was in the ER for several hours. I had many x-rays, MRI’s, and CT scans. I ended up being in a neck brace for about 4 weeks. I had to sleep, shower, and go to work in that neck brace. My car accident demonstrates how lucky everyone who was in my car to have made it out safely.

My dad, however, was driving irresponsibly. The night of my dads accident in 2009, he drank 3 times the legal driving limit and decided to attempt driving home. He ended up passing out at the wheel and blew through a stop sign. He had hit a van with 6 people in it and only 5 survived. His vehicle rolled into the ditch and he immediately knew he messed up and turned himself in when police got there. The 1 survivor in the van ended up forgiving my dad for the accident and that helped my dads sentencing. Originally, he was supposed to get 24 years in federal prison. Because that one survivor forgave him, he only got 5 years in prison with 2 ½ years of probation. Although my dad was extremely lucky to have a very forgiving person, that isn’t the case for everybody. Personally, I wouldn’t have forgiven him. Not only could I have lost my dad due to death but I could’ve lost my dad for 24 years in prison. That is why it is extremely important to get educated on driving education.

What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road? Some things you can do to be a safer driver would include staying off your phone, listening to music on the radio, and being aware of your surroundings. You can educate others on how to be a better driver by reminding them and telling them facts. That way you can prevent yourself and help prevent another person from getting in a terrible accident like my father and I.
