Importance of Driver’s Education
Driver’s education is super important and crucial in one’s teenage years. This education is very important to a teen because without any knowledge of the road or the car one is operating, the situation could escalate in a very bad way because they could easily not know the rules and hit another driver. One could think that driving a car on the road is not hard and that without the education they will be alright but, that is definitely not the case. There are so many rules and laws and things to follow that after I took the driving education course, I was exposed too. The rules that I learned are crucial in operating an automobile. Things like what types of signs mean, rules on stopping and spacing between commercial vehicles. Deaths by car accidents should not be at all as high as they are recorded. An accident is usually caused by driving under the influence, being distracted, or being frazzled from the stressfulness of driving. Driving is a great responsibility to have and can easily be taken away too if misused. A driver ready to hit the road should be solely focused on the road, be aware of their surroundings at all times, and drive sober always! By doing these things and following the responsibilities and rules, we as a country can reduce deaths by car accidents greatly. To achieve this successfully, every driver needs to take a driver education class and earn their way to a permit and eventually a license. When one has their permit, they should practice driving with their parents or other adults frequently to get more feedback on their driving skills. Studying the assessed handbook is also a very good idea to memorize most of the rules. Drivers need to also put their phone down and leave it in their purse or back seat while driving to reduce distractions. Also having quieter music might help decrease distractions as well. Lastly, keeping your passengers in check as well and not letting them yell or touch any driving controls. I have been in a couple car accidents myself thankfully though, they have all been harmless. The first one, I had gotten into was when me and my mom were driving to school on a highway and then a school bus pulled out of their school road and t boned us on my side. I was not injured but my mom was pregnant and we had to get checked out in an ambulance and the whole situation was very scary for me. Another crash I had been in was when a deer jumped into my driver window. It was not a harmful crash but I was startled but also grateful that my car and I made it out uninjured. I have also been in a minor accident because I was parking in my mother’s giant suv and I estimated the angle badly and I scraped the car beside me and had to wait almost two hours for a police man to show up and file an accident. It was a very minor thing but still felt horrible for it. After that I realized driving my smaller car was better when trying to park in tight spaces. I know most of the high school students at my school drive while using their phone. I had been in their car with them during their phone use and there is constant swerving because they are not focusing their attention on the road as they should be. Sometimes they even run off into the dirt shoulder which is very scary and then the jolt back onto the road might be even scarier. My friends that are on their phone also tend to speed which is definitely not a good mix when driving. I end up paying more attention than they do because it makes me nervous knowing that somebody like that is in control of my life at the moment. The steps I can take is to start turning my attention from jamming out to my music to just listening to it and staying calm while behind the wheel. I also talk on the hands free phone sometimes but that does steal my attention too which is what I need to work on. Also when I am in the car with my reckless classmates, I can take their phone from them so that my life is not being risked by somebody anymore. I can also give them a reminder if needed to slow down and take their time.
