The Importance of Drivers Education

Driving is the most accessible form of travel in the world. It allows us to work, go to school, and see the most important people in our lives. As freeing as driving can be, there are plenty of dangers that come with using a vehicle. Especially since it is not only our lives on the line but also the lives of others in potential danger when driving. That makes driving education the most important thing when on the road. It gives old and new drivers information on how to drive safely and the potential dangers of the road. Having knowledge and precaution can make the roads we all travel a safer place.

Without proper education, undoubtedly people would drive more recklessly and dangerously. With the use of driver’s education, people can learn how to safely maneuver roads without putting themselves or others in danger. Education can also show how to properly drive on roads and make all traffic flow more efficiently. Acknowledging the dangers that can come with driving can also discourage people, especially young people from driving dangerously. Important knowledge such as road signs and how to drive on the roads is key information that is beneficial to all drivers and makes the road a safer place when these rules and regulations are followed. But simply having a driver’s education and knowing the rules of the road will not fix all the dangers of the road.

While it may seem harsh, there should be more drastic punishments for reckless driving. Without harsher punishment, people would continue to defy the law leading to more deaths from preventable accidents. Punishing acts of unsafe driving such as speeding would discourage drivers from trying to commit these acts. The fee for drunk driving and speeding could be higher, in extreme cases of reckless driving- there should be some jail time. Another way to reduce the number of accidents is to include driving education as a mandatory class in schools similar to CPR training. This has the possibility of making more informed drivers to prevent crashes. Making people renew their driver’s education a bi-yearly requirement could also be a way to prevent accidents. Citizens who fail can retake the course if needed but it also allows them to re-evaluate their driving. It would also take those no longer capable of driving off the road for their own and others’ safety. Careers could also provide extra training for employees about driving instruction. – With all the potential dangers of the road it is unsurprising that most people have experienced or know a person who has experienced a crash.

There have been points in my life where people I know have driven irresponsibly. Whether it be driving and being on their phone or not paying full attention to the road. If I ever point out these concerns, they tell me they are more experienced drivers and could take these risks without issue. However, it is unbelievable that accidents cannot happen to experienced drivers. Accidents can still happen to anyone at any time. The idea that an accident cannot happen to drivers can potentially lead to more crashes. Any form of distraction can lead to disaster. Especially since not all crashes are due to a single person and can be caused by many people. The more people distracted on the road the higher the likelihood of a deadly crash. It is terrifying to me that people I care about could be injured in an accident that could have been prevented.

People, myself included, can sometimes become too accustomed to driving and rely on others to remain safe. But people need to be constantly aware of their surroundings. Reminding others of the dangers of the road could also aid in preventing crashes. People should always be aware of the dangers that can happen in a car crash – as well as be made aware of the danger of reckless driving. Talking to close family and friends about the dangers of their driving could also save lives so that they can start to correct their mistakes. When it comes to my driving, I’ve been noted that I am very on edge most of the time when I drive. While being too lax can be a potential danger so can being too stressed about driving which can also cause issues on the road. Being anxious can cause me to make mistakes, in the future, I need to remain calm when driving to drive safely.

More overall education and awareness of the dangers of driving can create safer and better-managed roads. By there being more education for drivers it can start to put an end to preventable crashes. We can make an effort to help the people in our lives to make important choices to keep our roads safe.
