Safe Drivers, Safe Roads, Safe Lives: The Road to Safe Drivers Education

As humans, it is very likely that we all have witnessed a car crash in our lives and as more crashes are appearing in my neighborhoods, we need to take the utmost precautions and skills in order to make these roads and our drivers safe. As I am waiting to receive my drivers license, I can only imagine what the roads have coming for me. I believe that everyone should take Driver Education to benefit everyone on the roads no matter what age they are. If they are 16 and just getting their license or if they are 50 years getting their licenses back, I believe that everyone should be getting the appropriate drivers education. Despite Drivers Education being important and a mandatory priority for today’s drivers, because there are approximately 825 automobile crashes happening every hour, 13% of automobile-related accidents happening just because the drivers never took Drivers Education, and big highway closures happening because of huge and deadly car crashes. This is why Drivers Education is so important to myself and my family because I couldn’t imagine one of my family members passing away just because people haven’t taken the necessary educational skills when driving comes onto the plate.

I am beginning to enroll myself in Drivers Education in the North East Independent School District, because it is my utmost priority to take this opportunity whilst it still remains at L.E.E. High School. I plan for Drivers Education to teach me the importance of paying attention on the road. With there being a major highway closure on Tuesday October 22, 2024, I realized how it affects not only the impacted people within the crash, but it affected everyone else on the highway and made everyone late to work or wherever they were going. I plan to take Drivers Education because it is a mandatory priority for today’s drivers and especially for myself because I aspire to become the epitome of the greatest driver in San Antonio and the “good driver” in my family where even my mother feels safe driving with me and doesn’t have to be overdramatic when I brake.

As there are many deaths that can happen in an automobile crash, I also realize that the people who passed are also a mothers child and that the mother never got to say goodbye. September 2017, I was eight years old when I witnessed the most horrific two car collision I had ever seen. The driver was face first into the steering wheel and the passenger, who looked like a little boy was halfway out the front windshield. My mother tried to make me and my sibling not look at this horrific scene but it was no use. It was later stated that one of the cars was a teenage girl and she didn’t have her license but she was arrested on a DWI. I believe that this entire crash could have been prevented if the little girl had taken Drivers Education and learned about the dangers of Drunk Driving. The other family’s car was totaled and everyone in that vehicle had passed away. This crash was a slight percentage of the 13% of automobile crashes that happened just because the drivers never took Drivers Education.

As my oldest brother who is 33, has special needs and requires a lot of attention and patience. He is old enough to do a lot of things but he will never drive. As almost everyone that I know can’t wait to leave their parents house or get a car and move out, my brother will be required to live with my mother for the rest of their lives. He always tells us how he wants a Slingshot car and drives Downtown San Antonio and we have to silently know that he will never drive, get married, or have a life outside of my mothers house. More than likely, I will be the one to get him to and from work, go grocery shopping with him, take him on vacations, and be with him when my mother unfortunately passes in many years to the future. I am also going to take Drivers Education in order to become a great driver so that my brother feels comfortable with my driving skills and we will never have to be in a car crash nor witness one.

The steps that we all should and can take in order to become a better and safer driver is to always check the blindspots, pay attention to my surroundings and others, know that everyone is someone’s baby and no mother should bury her children. I can also make the roads safer for others by taking Drivers Education and taking it seriously so that the number of deaths from a car crash can be reduced. I can also make it a priority for my closest friends and I to take the Drivers Education courses provided so that everyone can avoid seeing such a horrendous car crash as no one should at the age of eight years old or any age for that matter.
