Driver Education Initiative
Since the first and second quarter of 2024, there has been a total of 18,720 deaths in regards to driving. The number has increasingly gotten higher over the years. It is important for everyone who chooses to get behind the wheel of a car to be aware of the risks and of how drivers around the world are responsible for the safety of those in their car and outside of their cars. It is important for driver education to be implemented and learned in regards to understanding how drivers can reduce the number of deaths. Driver’s education revolves around those who are learning how to drive, understanding the depth of what comes with driving. Drivers education is aidful when drivers acknowledge that they are part of the problem. Drivers are required to take drivers education in order to receive their licenses, therefore they are in an understanding that what they learn from that education helps them be educated. It is important for driver education to take place to reduce the number of deaths because drivers know about how reckless driving can be deadly.
When looking into steps that could be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Those steps could be that of minimizing distractions while driving, being in the right state of mind, not driving while intoxicated or under the influence and paying attention. Steps like these can help individuals who participate in driving be better drivers and not cause injuries or deaths while driving. Paying attention and being aware of one’s surroundings while driving can reduce deaths by vehicles. Drivers paying attention and limiting their distractions helps individuals be more focused in their driving and in the surroundings that are around them while driving. Driving has been a huge source for my family but with driving, crashes and accidents have occurred. Both my mom and my sister have been in car accidents, I have only been in one car accident my whole life. My mom has been in at least three car accidents in which all three times she was hit due to drivers not paying attention. In her third car accident my grandma was with her which resulted in my grandma breaking her finger and not being able to fold it as much even to this day.
As for my sister she has been in a total of two car accidents, with me being in the first accident of hers. The accident had occurred days into the beginning of my freshman year of highschool. The accident occurred in the morning when my sister was turning left at an intersection and a car who was going at full speed hit her from the front of her car. While the accident did not cause many injuries, nor any deaths it was scary as well as her car being totaled. The second accident occurred when my sister was driving in the dark towards her job and she was speeding and making a right curve, her car flipped over. I did not get behind the wheel of a bus until I was at least sixteen. I had waited until I got my permit and then went into driver’s education where I learned what it was to pay attention to railroads, stop signs, yield signs and the dangers of driving while intoxicated or under the influence.
During driver’s education I was able to understand more about the responsibility that came with being behind the wheel of a vehicle and how I have been part of the problem since receiving my license. Since receiving my license I have learned to be patient when driving which is beneficial when being in strenuous situations such as traffic or when car accidents happen in highways. Being patient helps me as the driver be focused on my surroundings when driving and not making haste decisions. Limiting my distractions such as not using my phone, not listening to very loud music, and not having multiple conversations with passengers are helpful when it comes to driving. While I have learned to limit distractions, an issue that does cause me some struggle would be that of controlling my speed while driving. It is hard for me to control my speed because I feel like I have to rush to places. Therefore, steps that I continue taking to make me feel safe and others feel safe while driving and outside of driving is taking my time when driving. Such as checking distances of how far places or events are, checking the driving conditions and leaving early if there are factors that could obstruct me to drive safely.
