Making the right decisions on the road

I’m 17 years old in my 12TH grade year I currently have my provisional class D license. When I first wanted to drive I was in my junior year of high school. I noticed that a lot of my peers were starting to drive and it seemed fun knowing that you can go wherever you want almost whenever you want. So I talked to my parents about the idea of me driving. It took some convincing, but they eventually said yes but since I was under the age of 18, I had to go through a drivers Ed class. I took the online course for 2 1/2 weeks. Many said that the class was dreadful waiting in those 2 to 3 hour long sessions, but when I was in the class I felt that it was actually very educational which it was supposed to be, but taking that online course made me think of driving from a different perspective. It’s not only about going wherever but it also makes you think about the responsibility that comes with driving many people have lost their life while behind the wheel, and whatever the cause has been texting, drinking or simply just being distracted it costs of their lives. The online instructor said he wasn’t trying to scare us from driving, but to just show us how serious it is. But overall I feel that taking that course really made me a better driver and student of the road regulations a few weeks after I took my written permit test. I passed my first try and I was very excited. I feel that without that course, I would’ve been able to pass on my own, next I started at my behind the wheel lessons behind the wheel session for two hours, and then structures that I had were very good instructors. They showed me how to control the car and how to navigate the roads while remaining safe after my behind all the lessons In a few months of practice I needed to take my road test The day I arrived at the closed road course there was a sense of nervousness and excitement nervous because I didn’t want to fail but excitement because I knew I had enough experience and I believed in myself. So, just like I believed the road test went smoothly and I passed my first try just like the permit test and I have to give thanks to my driving school because I would’ve passed a written test or my road test if it wasn’t for their assistance, then over the summer, my auntie was getting ready to buy a new car and she was very generous to give me her old car which is a 2012 GMC terrain which was kind of weird because my parents on a 2013 GMC terrain so it was kind of like we were driving the same car. I was very excited to have my own car, but even when I would drive on my own, I never really had the urge to speed or drive recklessly in any type of way. Because I always would think back to my drivers Ed class and I don’t want to end up like the people that I saw in the videos, moving their life on the road due to something that wasn’t worth it. I know that as a driver, I must take every single precautionary measure to make sure that I am being the safest that I can be for myself and everyone else. Also, I live in Minnesota, so the weather can also play a big factor on the roads, which is another reason why I have to be attentive on the road at all times because even if I’m doing everything that I can you never know the effects the road can have on the car. Overall I love driving and being able to travel. Driving is something people don’t often think about because vehicles are way people commute every day, and that something people take for granted it can be scary knowing that your friend a loved one or maybe even yourself could lose your life any given day when you’re out on the road, but that’s what makes me want to be the safest driver I can be because I know that that would impact a lot of people in my life, knowing that they lost someone that they loved all because of a text message I feel that I would dishonor myself by not being able to live out and fulfill my life, I know that I have a lot of potential that I have yet to achieve. That’s why when I jump into the driver’s seat, I put on my seatbelt on and start the car and make sure that when I’m on the road I’m making the right decisions.

Thank you
