2025 – Drivers Education Essay
Driver education plays an essential role in reducing the number of deaths that surround accidents that occur on the road. There are numerous studies that show areas with well-planned and implemented driver’s education classes are likely to have fewer vehicle-related fatalities. The reason is simple: education around the matter really does play a role as it goes over the rules of the road and how to handle different situations that may arise in severe conditions, along with how to address/respond in emergency situations, and just being plain ol responsible. The classes or programs not only try to focus on just passing the driving test but also grow habits for prioritizing safety. It is exceptionally important to the newer teenage drivers as they are at higher risk of accidents, which emphasizes the critical part education would play in reducing accidents along with fatalities. A well-instructed driver’s ed program would not only teach how to operate and the mechanics of a vehicle but also give all those who take the class a deeper understanding of awareness of the road, defensive driving, and the results of reckless driving and behavior when on the road. Now let’s be honest the impact of a driver’s education can go above and beyond the lectures or behind the wheel. I feel that there are multiple ways to reduce the number of deaths surrounding vehicle deaths. The first one that comes to mind is road safety campaigns as they would bring public awareness that focuses on the dangers of speeding, recklessness, etc. The campaigns can use social media along with broadcast on music platforms (ex – radio/Spotify ads). I know they have the AM station that you can turn to for important traffic updates but I feel it would be more beneficial if they did a broadcast over all stations about the importance of safe driving and important traffic or road work updates. Another example would be Stricter regulations on younger drivers, for example, they can obtain a license after graduation from a safety learning/training program or have to pass another exam upon the driving test already stated, making it harder to obtain a driver’s license. To tag along with the younger requirements I think once people get over a certain age (for example: 65) they should be retested for their license. Another idea is to create a better infrastructure, some of the road signs are faded or just completely not there, traffic lights are out, dim streetlights, no streetlights at all, and the lanes are not clearly marked as they have faded from the weather and constant usage. It would be a beneficial idea to see if both the national and local governments could become involved and take a more active role in helping these issues as it may be more clear for the drivers to understand the rules and regulations of the roads. When people can clearly see along with understand the rules of the highway/road, it would reduce confusion and mistakes that would lead to accidents. Now I would suggest car manufacturers use advanced technology to enhance safety features like automatic braking and departing lane features but in my experience, I did not receive a brand-new vehicle with these features when I first started pushing, I got a reliable car but no real fancy or adaptable features. While those adaptable features are comforting and extremely helpful in terms of stopping accidents from occurring they are also pricey. Now I was never in a car accident that resulted in any fatalities but there was an accident that happened right around my school that shocked the community. The crash that happened in 1981 had resulted in eight fatalities on the same road as our academy. At school, they typically do not bring it up often as it happened a long time ago but to serve as a reminder of safe driving they have a memorial rock with a plaque right by the student parking lot. My plan to be a better driver is to avoid distractions like a cell phone or other technology, where my seatbelt, follow all the road laws like the speed limit, traffic light, etc.., and encourage others to take the pledge to drive responsibly as well! On an individual level, all of us have to play a part in lessening car accidents, even adults. By dedicating ourselves to secure driving rituals and motivating others to join in the action, we all can help in controlling and stopping future tragedies from happening. It is up to all of us to ensure safety is used on and off the road!
