How we can reduce vehicular accidents
Vehicles were invented in the 19th century and have since been used to get place to place. Vehicles have been one of the greatest creations ever. But unfortunately, these vehicles are driven by humans, and as we know, human aren’t very intelligent creatures. People driving recklessly and stupid has caused plenty of accidents, resulting in injuries and in some cases, death. Not only are the lives taken affected, but other lives are changed forever. Humans need to look at themselves and think what they need to do in order to reduce the number of car accidents and deaths through driving recklessly.
One of the ways to do this is through driver education. Drivers ed is huge, giving knowledge and skills to new drivers helping them drive safely, understanding traffic laws, and make responsible decisions to reduce accidents. With drivers’ education, drivers can experience driving with an instructor, learning through a driver with tons of experience. If students participate in driver’s education, they usually become better citizens overall. Drivers’ education focuses on teaching skills like vehicle operation, which helps with creating safe roads. Students that earn drivers’ education gain more knowledge of traffic laws and signals to ensure drivers are aware of their responsibilities. If we teach students good driving habits, it helps them avoid distractions, like their phones, radios, and even books. Drivers’ education also builds confidence to young drivers. The more experience gained the more confidence drivers have while driving. I have learned this myself, the more I drive I am equipped with extreme confidence, as when I started driving, I was very nervous driving, but now I am extremely confident in my driving abilities. Drivers’ education greatly reduces the chances of accidents, injuries, and deaths as they also learn how to react to emergencies. Drivers’ education teaches students to use seatbelts, put away their phones, and following traffic signs and signals. In addition to all these benefits, drivers’ education may be able to lower insurance rates. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers who have completed a drivers education course. If humans learn these right away, they are less likely to experience accidents. Everyone driving on the road feels safer when people get their drivers education.
Getting a driver’s education is just one step to reducing motor vehicle deaths. It is smart to focus on preventing risky behaviors like drunk driving and distracted driving, promoting seatbelt use, and informing vehicle safety. It is never smart to drive under the influence. Designate or sober driver or find other ways to get home safely. Another way is to wear a seatbelt in case of an accident. Practicing good habits when with passengers that are young is a great step to insuring safe driving. I have been in vehicles where the driver may be driving distracted, like looking at their phone, or not wearing a seatbelt. As a young passenger I thought this was normal, and now I see that I occasionally do this when I myself, has younger children as my passengers. I have been trying to take steps to make sure I avoid these unsafe habits. One thing is if your phone is too hard for you to resist, give it to a passenger or put it in a sport in your vehicle where it is unreachable from the driver seat. Humans are not untouchable, put the phone away. Along with putting away your phone, avoid drinking or eating while driving and stay focused on the road. Maintain your vehicle, checking tires, brakes and lights and drive for whatever conditions you’re driving in. Adjust your speed and driving to match the weather conditions. Another thing is to make sure to get enough sleep. If you know you will have a long drive in the porting, make sure to get enough hours of sleep. Always drive at a speed that you are confident is safe.
Throughout my life I have seen older siblings and family driving irresponsible. Driving fast, seeing older sibling driving distracted and parents speeding. A few years ago, my brother was driving distracted and hit a deer coming back. He had multiple passengers in his vehicle. Luckily enough, none of the passengers were hurt and there were no casualties. But, my brothers vehicle took some damage, and it took a lot of money and time to repair. That experience has taught me to stay off my phone and not drive distracted.
In conclusion, I believe that humans need to take steps to drive safely and gain education to ensure this. Stay focused on the road, drive sober, and wear seatbelts. These steps ensure safe roads, and smart drivers.
