Driving: The Most Dangerous Part of a Safe Life

My
dad, one of the safest drivers I have ever seen. This does not matter
though, because it only takes one person to cause an accident. One
day, my dad and I were on our way to the store for our weekly
groceries. As usual, he was stopping had all the stop signs, obeying
all the speed limits, and always made sure to drive defensively. By
chance, a girl was pulling out of her neighborhood at the same time
we decided to go to the grocery store. But she, unlike my dad,
decided to not look both ways before turning out of her neighborhood
and into the road. In this instance, there was no amount of good
driving that could stop the accident that was soon to come. As she
pulled into the left lane, where my dad was, she only noticed we were
there whenever my dad blared his horn. We swerved to the right,
narrowly avoiding her, but still harrowed with the thought of what
could have happened. It is a times like these then I wonder why we
don’t renew drivers ed courses every few years to simply
remind people of the basics that can keep everyone on the road safe.
I believe by simply having everyone take a defensive driving course
or drivers ed once every few years, we could reduce the number
of deaths related to driving drastically.
