The
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths
as a result of driving is to make them aware of how important it is
to know how to drive and how not to drive since having a license is
almost synonymous with getting a weapon. Any wrong move could cause
not only you to die but also someone else. The importance of driver
education is to make sure people take driving a car seriously. It is
not something that you can just jump into, turn a key, and go
wherever you want to. It is something that can take you places, but
it also is a great responsibility to ensure to keep not only you
safe, but also others, and of course, the car itself.
The
steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving is to have more people attend drivers ed as a
mandatory step before receiving their license, along with making
students/ people aware of the consequences of driving and to know the
responsibility that comes with being behind the wheel. Also, it would
be nice to be shown a scenario-based simulation to show when they do
one wrong thing they can see the after-effects. One can learn from
their mistakes and will take steps or do things to prevent it.
For
me, personally, I have had many people within my family as well as
school circle who have experienced car accidents due to irresponsible
driving. But the one that impacted me the most would be the incident
that my grandmother always talks about where she was a passenger in a
car on the Big Island with her friends and almost saw the end of her
life..a black tunnel with a bright light at the end of it. She could
see heaven due to her one friend making a mistake while driving that
killed her and ended up giving my grandmother and the others in the
car severe injuries.
The
steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver is to follow
the rules of the road, to be patient when it is required, and to show
aloha to other drivers and especially the pedestrians. Since in
reality, seconds of careless driving which causes death is not worth
it. Nothing is worth killing someone or dying. Life is precious and
we shouldn’t squander it needlessly. A drivers ed is
important because unlike learning from a family member or friend, it
goes into more detail about driving.
