Past hardships
“In
an instant”. This phrase should not be taken lightly when it comes
to being a safe driver. “In an instant”, you think you can send
that text, you end up killing someone. “In an instant”, you
think you can beat that yellow to red light, you can cause an
accident. “In an instant”, you speed driving down a block, a
child can be running out into the street. “In an instant you
forget to put on that seatbelt, you can fly through that window. “In
an instant”, you take those couples of drinks, you can die.
I’ve
began to take driving irresponsible even more serious than before.
This is because of my personal experience of losing my step father
due to someone who was dinking and driving. It affected me and my
other four siblings drastically. Especially my mother being that
they were only married for one year. Every time I go out with anyone
I always buckle up. Sometimes when I go out with my mom, while we
are driving I have to remind her to put on her seat belt. The funny
thing is that before we even get in the car she reminds me to put on
mine. Sometimes she wants to change the radio station while driving.
I tap her hand and say “mom I got this, keep your eyes on the
road”.
As
we all may know education is the key to knowledge. It also affects
our actions and experiences. I believe that education needs to begin
from young. Like most things instilled in a youth from a young age
it will most likely stick with them through adulthood. A young child
can save someone’s life. Example a young child driving with an
adult who is speeding may say “slow down the limit is 25 the speed
sign said”. This may be something they learned from school. Speed
signs and what the numbers mean on them. Not only will the adult slow
down, but that person will be proud of the knowledge that the child
has about speeding while driving. This experience may always stick
to the adult’s mind every mine their driving because of the child.
Introducing safety rules in education needs to be catching. Example
short sing along commercials, catchy phrases, bright bill boards,
social media ads etc. I believe it also needs to be repetitious. A
lot of times individuals tend to remember stuff by constantly seeing
it even if they don’t like what is being presented.
Another
aspect we can consider is being that the federal laws and bi-laws
usually governs the nation we need to start there. This will set a
tone that everyone will be on the same page with the policies.
That’s why in some states, I believe the number of car accidents
and death rates may be higher than others because of the state laws
being different from state to state. We can increase the amount of
speed bumps around school areas. They also should be around some
park areas. Kids like to run out into the streets without looking
running behind things.
In
some states we have children who begin to drive at an early age. I
think we need to implement the five hour class regimen in driver’s
education if they don’t already have it. This is continuous
education especially amongst the teens. We also need to educate on
having respect for each others as drivers, cars, trucks, vans,
motorcycles, etc. I’ve seen motorcycle accidents and/or death
caused by lack of respect from other vehicle drivers. We need
courtesy ads which I don’t see often. Another step to reduce death
would be the federal government can working with the insurance
company to offer discounts or stipends. Example if someone keeps a
clean record for five years they can get a 2% discount on their
insurance. Another offer can be a discount on a trip. This can be
two major influences. Everyone is always looking for discounts. If
we work together we can reduce the mortality rate from car accidents.
