I almost lost my life due to a careless driver

At
only age 18, I was almost killed by a reckless driver who was not
driving the speed limit and ran a stop sign. I was involved in a side
collision accident and my eyes remained shut as my car flipped over
and over again. I was fortunate enough to have had the accident in
front of a hospital so I had doctors and nurses assisting me in
getting out of my car while still remaining upside down. My car was
claimed as a total loss, however, I was fortunate enough to get away
with minor injuries. I no longer can get behind the wheel without
being paranoid and scared for my life. It is careless actions like
these that can impact someone’s life.

Innocent
lives are stripped away due to easily preventable car accidents At
some point in your life, there is a high possibility that you or a
loved one will be impacted by a car accident. This is why drivers
education is crucial. Every individual must be required to take a
drivers ed course before they can receive their license in
order for the number of accidents to significantly decrease. Drivers
must be informed of not just simply the rules on the road, but also
to how to be a cautious driver by being tested on knowing the
meanings of the signs on the roads. I believe a powerful solution
includes each University to implement a once a year online
certification exam to show college students how to be a safe driver
and to utilize this tool as a preventative measure for future
accidents.

There
are several different factors that can easily distract the driver.
That is, having a large group of friends in the car and engaging in
conversation rather than focusing on the road, irritation,
drowsiness, and unhappiness. These are all feelings that play
significant roles in drivers losing concentration. More people need
to gain the proper education of how these emotions and distractions
can also lead to getting involved in a car accident. It is as simple
as taking a few seconds to take a deep breath and relax before
getting behind the wheel.

Since
my accident, I put my phone, emotions, and all other distractions
aside, and follow every rule on the road. If society works together
to make these changes to their daily driving routines, many lives
would be saved. There is only one life to live and no one deserves
for it to end early because of someone else’s careless actions.
