Mandatory classes
Like sex ed has prevented many teen pregancies, drivers ed can prevent not all but many deaths. Through driver’s education an individual will have a broader range of knowledge, than a person who got the DMV handbook two days before their appointment. Although the handbook gives you enough information to pass, it is more likely you will forget the information days after. In steps to reduce deaths, drivers ed should be put as a mandatory class in high schools and not an extra class.
Drivers ed is more than information given to you, it is the foundation that gets you started. Without it you wouldn’t be able to understand the road signs, which are a huge part in the driving world to keep safe, and lead you to your destination. Interpreting signs are one of the many basic but major foundation blocks in driving safety, provided by drivers ed. Besides giving you your basic skills to hit the road, it also takes its time to teach you, which is important for memorization. We all will want to drive at some point, but would rather take it the faster way, so it isn’t surprising for someone to study at most 5 days before their exam. Even though that person read all they should know, because they studied in such a hurry, once they pass the exam they will have a higher chance of forgetting all that information. In taking drivers ed a person will not only have more time, but understand what they are reading. “Understanding is deeper than knowledge” (anonymous), if you don’t understand what you just read then you know as much as you did when you started. contributing to the importance of drivers’ ed, which is patience to gain knowledge.
In hopes to reduce deaths, drivers ed should be a mandatory class for high school students. We can talk about all the importance of drivers ed, but if no changes are made when it is presented, we can’t expect changes. Most people start driving at 16 to 18, meaning they are in high school. While driver’s ed is mandatory to get a permit, the class itself is hard to get. leading students to wait for their 18th birthday so they don’t have to take the class. Which totally ruins the purpose of having drivers ed in the first place, since people would just wait so they don’t need it.By having this mandatory class students don’t get to choose to take the class, which forces them in a way to gain that knoweldge. Although some people might still choose to not drive at such an age, they would at least have had exposure to the responsibilities they will later need.
Although personally I haven’t had an accident, I still know the pain of losing someone. Thus, As an early driver myself, I have taken the class in order to keep my community safe. However there are still many out there that need to be put in a class.
