Things Drivers Consider

My name is Raevyn Ray and I have been driving ever since I was seventeen years old. Being able to drive has put me in the perspective of seeing both sides and being in the driver’s seat and in the passengers’ seat. Before being able to drive I would always talk to my mom or try to show her something on my phone when she is driving. Now that I drive, I can see how dangerous and annoying that can be. When driving the driver needs to have all their focus on the road. In driver’s education these are the things that we learn about distraction and how to avoid them because they can lead to accidents.

In driver’s education you learn that anything you do as a driver can cause an accident ranging from minor to major tragedy. Some of the major things we learn are weather when driving, speed limits and ultimately driving under the influence. Most people do not think about how weather can affect a person’s driving but in driver’s education you learn how serious it can be. For example, when it rains bad or snows heavily a car can create a complication like hydroplaning which can lead to accidents. Then speed limits are definitely a major reason for accidents. We are taught to go specific speed limits in certain areas, but most people do not believe in that. People use the excuse of they were in a rush or running late but none of that will matter when they are dead or in a car crash that. That is why we have speed limits placed around towns to avoid events like that. Another thing we learn during driver’s education is the importance of NEVER driving under the influence. Driving under the influence is one of the number one reason of diver’s deaths.

It is never okay to driver if you have had acholic drinks or drugs that can impair your ability to function normally. Then is another leading cause of death because most individuals think that they are unable to be affected my alcohol but that is incorrect. In driver’s education we learn that alcohol and drugs can affect you sight, and you can be thinking you are in one land when you can possibly be driving both lanes. Or you can be thinking you far away from a car and you are right up on their bumper about to crash into them.

This reminds me about a time when I was at a family gathering and everybody was drinking. Mostly everybody had a little too much to drink but my aunt had too many. Since I knew she had drove herself I volunteered to drive her back home. I just knew that she would not make it home in the condition she was in, so I took it upon myself to help. This can be a common thing with adults. Many adults think that they cannot be affected because they have been driving for so many years, but they do not understand it can still be very risky. I feel that adult and young adults should have reeducate themselves every 3-4 years on the ways of the road and how to stay safe. With doing so I think that it will refresh the brain on what can happen and how to avoid traumatic situations.
