Importance of Driver’s Ed

Driver’s education can give exposure to teenagers and adults. Importance of driver education is to lower death rates, injuries, and accidents. Over 34,000 people die in a car crash every year. Driver’s education can educate people more about driving a vehicle, vehicle maintenance and safety precautions. Another thing that driver education can do is teach people how to drive on the road better. It teaches things such as changing lanes, adjusting speed, foresee hazards, entering and existing traffic, and many more things. It can help save a life by taking driver’s education.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. One of those steps is not to drink and drive. Drunk driving is very dangerous and has caused at least 29 deaths every day. It is best to call an Uber, Lyft, friend, or family if you are drunk to reduce accidents. Another example is distracted driving. There are 3 types of distraction. There is taking your eyes off the road, such as texting while driving, taking your hands off the steering wheel, and lastly, taking your mind off driving. Every day about 8 Americans are killed due to a distracted driver. Lastly, speed limits are not just a suggestion. Going above and below the speed limit causes motor vehicle car crashes. Speeding endangers not only the person in front or behind you, but everyone around you. About 25 people a day are killed due to speeding.

I have seen a big accident happen before. Four years ago my mom was driving me and my dad to my school. It was the same day as the One Direction concert at the Rose Bowl. The traffic was awful. My dad said to go into the carpool lane, however my mom had a feeling not too. She stayed towards the right lanes. About two minutes later, a car crashes in the car in front of them. It was like dominoes- one by one getting hit. I distinctly remember that one black car spiraled out of control. The car went right in front of us, the driver and passenger facing us. It felt like we were in a movie, everything became in slow motion and I can still see their faces in my head. I have also seen many small accidents throughout my life. Some were scratches to fender benders. Although they were minor, they still could have been prevented. I have also seen countless amounts of texting while driving people. They would constantly swerve from one side of the lane to the other side. It upsets me when it happens because it is an accident waiting to happen.

For me to be a better driver, I will keep my eyes on the road and be more aware of my surroundings more often. I will also keep my phone silent and put away in my backpack/purse. I will always maintain the speed limit. I know that being a responsible driver has already helped save a life and having a less chance of being in an accident. I would share my story to friends and family about my car experiences. Hopefully, sharing my story can help others to drive safer and get into less accidents. I would also tell people about ways to be safer.
