The Importance of Safe Driving
Driving education is so important to help reduce the numbers of deaths that result from reckless driving. The more educated people are on driving safely the less people will have to get the unfortunate knock on the door, or call saying something tragic has happened. I have personally been affected by reckless driving in multiple ways. My father was an alcoholic and unfortunately when he was under the influence he still thought it was okay to drive. Many times as a child he would be driving places with me in the car and it was such a scary experience. There was always this dark feeling of worry and fear that something bad would happen to me or to other people driving at that same time. Unfortunately this careless action caught up with him. One day he was driving to rehab to get help and he was under the influence of alcohol and crashed and died. Fortunately no one else was hurt but he had to face the consequences of his action. There are many ways to prevent deaths related to driving. For example, if you are planning to drink or smoke, it is important to either have a designated driver or find another form of transportation where you aren’t the one driving. Many accidents have been caused due to the use of cellphones. If you have a system in your car that allows you to connect your phone to its bluetooth it is important to do so, if your car does not have this luxury then there are bluetooth speakers that are meant for this. If you are someone who has the urge to look at their phone while driving, listen to some good music. This way you will be able to focus on driving while also being entertained by the music you enjoy so you won’t feel the need to look at your phone so often. When I am driving I take these steps to make sure I am safe. I turn my phone on silent so I won’t be distracted by any incoming notifications, I make sure that I feel well enough to drive and can see well. Everytime I get in the car I check my mirrors to make sure they are in the right place so I can see other cars clearly. I make sure I leave my house in plenty of time so I am not late and feel the need to speed. I encourage my friends and family members to do the same so no one else in my family, or another, will die or get injured because of careless driving. I try to help others by sharing my stories of what it is like to be in a car with a reckless driver and what the ultimate consequence is. When we are educated on being safe we will see numbers of car accidents go down.
