Lowering Driving Related Deaths Together

The more educated we are on the implications of improper handling of a vehicle the more seriously we will take getting behind the wheel. A simple trip to the local grocery store is just as dangerous for a distracted driver and others on the road as a cross country road trip.

Understanding statistics on distracted driving related accidents and fatalities and getting a solid foundation when learning to drive is essential to being an exceptional defensive driver.

There are arguably endless steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Some would be to add additional stop signs in neighborhoods, to lower the legal limit of alcohol consumption, put our phones away or on do not disturb until arriving at our destination, and keeping our vehicles up to date on necessary repairs. Each of us can be better all around.

I have seen plenty of people over the years driving irresponsibly. Primarily, Ive witnessed people becoming lazy behind the wheel, eating and drinking, or checking their phone while driving. Unfortunately, I am not innocent of these things myself. However, since becoming a parent and raising my boyfriends son full time I have reevaluated how I conduct myself behind the wheel. Leading by example for your kids is a great start to being a better driver yourself. Teaching someone else to be a safe driver on the road reminds me where I fall short. I want to be key part of keeping those I encounter safe, whether they be a stranger on the road or a passenger in my car.
