Driver Education Initiative

Something that was taught to me during my driving instruction classes was that Driver Education is the single most important class that a teenager could take. With this being said, Driver Education helps reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving, and by ensuring that the younger generations of drivers follow the rules which they need to follow, the number of deaths that occur should be reduced. Moreover, on some occasions you can learn about tips that could even save your life even if you think that you may never have a life-threatening issue like this one. To illustrate, my instructor talked to me and the rest of the class on what to do in the worst-case scenario that our brakes do not work or in the case that the vehicle continues to accelerate by itself. While this may come off as a bit of an odd concept to most people, the reality of the situation is that this is something that is really good to know. All of the accidents that happen on the road are unexpected, and since we don’t know how to react properly, the driver and passengers end up getting injured or in some cases even pass away.

However, education cannot simply be the only thing that reduces the number of deaths caused by a result of reckless driving, there needs to be measures taken to prevent this kind of behavior. To illustrate, some of the current ways that this is done is by instating a number of laws that punish individuals that take part in reckless driving behaviors and in some cases have them face justice if they have caused any harm to other individuals around them. In addition, there needs to be a way for people to become less addicted to their phones. I believe that by finding some way to reduce the drivers’ attention from their phone and instead leaving them to focus more on their driving, the number of deaths or even accidents that occur while driving will

Luckily, I have never been in a car accident; however, my mother has, and it was because the other driver decided not to follow the proper driving procedures and hit my mom when she was making a turn. Luckily, she was not seriously injured, but I remember being really worried for her. She had back issues and had to go to the doctor in order to feel better, not to mention how the minivan that my mother was driving had suffered some damage and needed to go to the mechanic so that it could be fixed. In continuation, I have had the opportunity to witness a car accident and I got to see the cause behind it as well. This was while I was on my way to school and two individuals who were on their phones instead of paying attention to their driving ended up crashing into one another. I remember it happening so fast, luckily nobody was seriously injured; yet this gave me insight as to how a small mistake while on the road can have serious consequences as was proven by the conditions in which the vehicles were found after they had crashed. This is one of the reasons that I take measures in order to do the most to prevent an accident from occurring on my behalf; nonetheless, I always make sure to focus on the road to also be prepared to protect myself on the road should it ever be necessary.

All of this has helped give me insight as to the importance of following the instructions that are provided to us, the student drivers or drivers, because of how they can one day end up helping us and the community that we live in. I personally follow all of the instructions that I learned when I was practicing driving with my instructor, and I ensure to put my phone on silent because the last thing I want is to get distracted while I am driving. The noises that are made when a phone receives a notification or when a phone is vibrating from a notification are a possible hazard that could result in me taking my eyes off the road and not being able to focus on my driving. I would not want to accidentally cause injury to someone.

In summarization, driver education classes are the most important classes that a teenager can take, a number of measures can be taken in order to discourage reckless driving and encourage better focusing skills on the road, personal experiences with vehicle crashes have personally helped me to take steps in order to ensure that I am safe when driving in a vehicle, and I always turn off my phone or any other electrical device that may distract me while driving in order to protect myself and fellow drivers out on the road. As the road safety message goes, “It’s not about how good of a driver you are. It’s about the 5 seconds you take your eyes off the road. Don’t risk it.”
