How
to be a Safer Driver

We
all heard stories about car accidents that had a drunk driver on prom
night or a distracted driver that thought taking a video of them
singing to the radio was the cool trend. There are times where
friends get together and rough around in the car until a tow truck
smashes into them and leaving a fatal outcome. When will this ever
stop? Giving drivers ed will allow people to open their minds
about what can distract them while driving and come up with solutions
that will help them stay focused on the road, which leads to more
people aware of their surroundings. As they become aware of their
surroundings, they will automatically recognize the hazards that may
be on the road like construction work sites and orange cones. Then,
they will have to figure out how to avoid it. It is easy actions to
take considering what is the hazard. For example, a branch fell down
from a tree from up above. There is no cars on the other lane and the
tree branch is taking up the whole right side of the road. What will
the driver do? What is safe to do at this point is drive around the
branch and immediately coming back to the right lane just in case
there are incoming cars. It was never easy for me and my family to
recover from a tragic accident we had over a decade ago. Our car hit
straight on to another and literally wreaked havoc. At that time, my
mother was seven months pregnant with my younger brother and had the
most affect in this car crash. She had numerous lacerations and
injuries all over her body. As for me, I hit my head on the car door
and went unconscious. Learning from this accident, we should have
been more aware of our surroundings and what dangerous moments are
happening. This accident could’ve ended the lives of three people
or more depending on the other driver. We cannot let us be unprepared
to go out into the road without learning how to prepare to be safe.
There are three steps I would advise others to do before driving.
Step 1: Always put your seatbelt on. It will prevent you from having
as much injuries compared to not wearing it. Step 2: turn off or
silent your cellphone. There are so many accidents where a driver was
distracted by texting and costed a life. Step 3: stay away from
alcohol. Alcohol can influence your mental stability in a terrible
way where you just cannot control. It is important to take these
steps. It can definitely save a life.
