The
importance of a drivers ed class in relation to reducing
vehicle deaths is through to fruition by:
-
allowing
the drivers ed student to learn, discuss, and fully understand
the laws and rules of the road; -
giving the student actual
driving experience to become a responsible new driver; -
introducing the drivers ed
student to proper driver etiquette; -
providing
guest speakers that present and share experiences and incidents
related to responsible driving. State troopers, motorcycle rider
representatives, individuals with family members killed in car
accidents are some examples of increasing driving awareness and
hopefully decreasing the number of deaths. -
presenting
academic lecture review, and testing to emphasize the seriousness of
driving and what it entails.
Steps
that could reduce the number of deaths related to driving are as
follows:
-
Require
that all US states mandate all prospective drivers attend and pass a
drivers ed class before obtaining a driver’s license. -
Monitor more closely speed
limits. This could be done by drones, where possible. -
Conduct
stops at random checkpoints for safety belt usage, possible alcohol
abuse, car maintenance issues, safe driving reminders, and to even
provide latest statistics on death-related driving. -
Provide and/or use alternative
transportation outside of car vehicles. Create strong communication
between city and state to address this idea.
I
have seen the following with some of my friends or peers:
-
Postings
on social media of pictures and videos of themselves driving with
loud music in background or with their cell phone in hand; -
Speeding in residential areas at
least 10-12 miles per hour over the limit and not caring! -
Tailgating
because they are impatient or think it is funny.
Steps
to become a better and safer driver as well as help others become
safer on the road I try to implement are:
-
Remind people and myself to slow
down and focus only on driving; -
Tell them
to eliminate cell phone usage while driving, provide constructive
criticism and help my friends who are driving the car and let them
know about any driving issues; -
Remind the
driver and myself that it is not just their/my life they are putting
in danger but everyone in the car and those one the road; -
Stay updated on new road laws
for your region, state, and nation; -
Make sure to keep your/my car
updated with servicing.
These
topics are all very important to consider as they relate to the
number of car driving deaths. With new drivers it is necessary to be
more aware in all departments/areas. If more people adhered to these
ideas and practiced positive driving, I believe there would be less
deaths on the road.
