Growing up comes
with a great deal of responsibilities. The transition from a child to
a young adult comes with a large amount of life lessons and active
learning. One of the most major events that young adults get so
excited about is driving. This amazing experience, with the use of
cellular devices, has caused tragic deaths around the world.
Inexperienced drivers do not get behind the wheel and think about how
their actions can affect others like they should. At this stage of
their lives, they are just absorbed by the idea of finally getting
the privilege to drive. If more drivers had their mind focused on how
their actions can affect others, there would be a decrease in car
accidents and the potential deaths that come along with that.
As of 2019, there
has been an abundance of car accidents. What most people do not pay
attention to is that most of these accidents are due to the use of
cellular devices while driving. Technology has drastically increased
the influence on people’s lives today. Whether or not they are
sending a text, answering a phone call, posting a snapchat video,
scrolling through their instagram feed, or updating their facebook
status, it all ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]has the same outcome. Anything can
happen in just a second when you take your eyes and hands off the
wheel. There are laws stating that drivers cannot be on their phones,
but not everyone obeys that law. iPhone users have a useful tool in
their settings called, “Do Not Disturb While Driving Mode.” This
setting allows drivers to not access the apps while driving. This
setting will help reduce the number of distractions in the vehicles
that are on the roads. Therefore, less deaths would occur.
Luckily, I have
never been in a car accident. However, I have seen other people pass
by me on the road who were on their phones. I have a friend who was a
passenger in a terrible car accident and flew out the window because
he was not using his seat belt. He was rushed to the emergency room
with the urgent need of having surgery on both of his knees. He can
no longer continue his dream of being the best cross country runner
that he can be. This car accident did not happen because the driver
was using his phone. It happened because the driver was exceeding the
speed limit while trying to be funny and swerve in the lanes. When I
see a driver doing irresponsible things behind the wheel, I think
about the possibilities of what could happen to the people in that
car and to the people in the cars around them. No life is worth
losing over an irresponsible person!
I would love to
help others learn to drive safer. People should know the consequences
of their actions behind the wheel. Making them aware of these
consequences will encourage them to have better safety habits while
driving and recognize the things that they do wrong and learn from
their mistakes. Those who survived a car accident could tell their
story to others so they can get a survivors point of view. Try your
best to avoid the use of your phone while on the road. Make sure you
always know the rules and regulations on the road as well as the
speed limit. Become mindful of your surroundings and spread the word
of driving safely. For those who do this and repeat the cycle will
help save many people’s lives.
