Careless
driving

Driving
is a privilege not a right.” We hear this statement all the time,
but many teenagers don’t listen to it as much as they should.
Teenagers have the opportunity to get their license and permit at a
young age. Many of them abuse the fact they can now drive. They don’t
pay attention to their driving skills and end up driving very
carelessly. This is part of the reason as to why there are so many
deaths caused by driving.

One
of the biggest leading causes of death from driving are distractions.
Every driver can say that they at one point have been distracted
while driving. According to After Car Accidents, one of the top five
reasons for fatal teen car accidents are cell phones. Teenagers
usually have their cell phones right next to them while driving,
which is a huge problem. According to Impact Teen Drivers, crashes
are more common among young drivers than any other age group. When
people see their phones light up with a notification, their first
instinct is to check their phone. Looking at your phone for even a
second can be fatal. You can’t see if you’re staying in your
lane, if there are any cars around you, and how fast you are going.
If you’re not able to see what’s going on around you, that’s
when you’re most likely to end up in an accident. All because of a
phone. Limiting distractions around you while driving will save a lot
of lives. People should put their phones away somewhere in their car
where they won’t be able to see it, and turn it off so you can’t
hear it ring. No call or text is worth yours or anyone else’s life.

Drivers
education could help save a life. While taking drivers ed you learn
the rules of the road in order to help you drive safely. Just by
following rules and doing what you’re supposed to do can help
decrease the risk of car accidents. Drivers ed teaches you the
risks of reckless and careless driving, distracted driving, and
driving under the influence. Teaching new drivers, the terrible risks
of doing these things can help kids avoid mistakes other drivers have
made and ended up losing their lives over.

I
have never been in a car accident, but my mom has. Her and the other
person involved ended up being fine, but it was a pretty serious
accident. My mom was driving through an intersection, as she had a
green light. Someone decided to run a red light and hit my mom. As to
why the person ran the red light, I don’t know, but I don’t think
a mistake like that was worth the possibility of a fatal accident. My
mom and the person who hit her both could’ve lost their lives, all
because someone did something so ignorant.

As
a driver, I intend to not be a distracted one. I want to have all my
focus on the road to keep myself and my passengers safe. I will be a
cautious driver and pay attention to signs and follow the rules of
the road. Being reckless and stupid isn’t worth a person’s life.
As a driver and a friend, I want to help make sure that people are
careful and attentive drivers while I or anyone else are driving with
them. Just by following the rules and paying attention can lead to
one less fatal car accident.
