The importance of
drivers ed is to ultimately save lives and to reduce the number
of deaths each year due to driving. In general, the more educated
drivers are on the road, the safer we all with be. It really breaks
my heart to see the amount of lives that are lost each year due to
driving. There are some steps that I think can be taken to help
reduce the number. The first thing that everybody can do is just be
more aware while on the road. This not only includes being aware
while you are driving but also being aware of the distractions that
can easily distract you while you are driving. Another thing that I
would say is when students are in driving school, the teachers should
put more emphasis on what can happen if you get distracted. I think
that one of the biggest distractions that a lot of people face is our
phone. Some people think that looking away at their phone for 2 or 3
seconds won’t put their lives at risk, but it really can. Lastly, I
think that it would be beneficial that when new drivers are being
educated, have a person who has been greatly affected by a car
accident come in and speak with these students. This gives them a
real life picture of what the results are and how something you did
could change your life forever.

            I,
along with other teenage drivers and adults have thought, “It’s
not going to happen to me, I’ll be fine.” It’s just so easy to
say that but in reality, saying that is not going to save you. I
never thought that anything could happen to me until one day, my
perspective completely changed. It was a rainy day and my friend was
driving me back to my house. We were having a simple conversation and
next thing I knew, we were skidding off of the road. Luckily, we did
not hit anything, however we came extremely close to hitting multiple
things. So that day, I truly did learn that it can happen to you. I
learned that even the smallest distraction, like a simple
conversation, can really put your life at risk.

Unfortunately,
I have seen my friends drive irresponsibly. There are lots of
distractions that people are faced with today. While I am driving, I
can work to eliminate as many of those distractions for others and
myself. I think that the biggest thing I can do to help others become
a safer driver is to advocate for my voice. In other words, I need to
not be afraid to speak up if others are distracted while driving. In
the continuing years, I really want to work toward being able to tell
people some simple things they need to do to become a safer driver. I
am willing to take all of the steps that it takes to reduce that
number of deaths each year.
