Accidents
Can Be Prevented
Driving
is a great privilege our society was given. Most people nowadays were
born knowing about the wonder of cars and never stopped to think,
what would life be like without them? We would be forced to use other
forms of transportation, but fewer people would get hurt. It would
take longer to get places, but the death rate would decrease.
Unfortunately, a life with no cars is just quite impossible, but
decreasing car crashes are not. As one is getting their driver’s
license, they must take steps such as taking a drivers ed course,
learn and drive with an instructor, and get at least fifty hours of
behind the wheel driving with a parent. Though these requirements are
aimed to better the teen driver, crashes are most commonly with teen
drivers. Not knowing what to do in situations does not benefit them
or other people on the road. I believe all drivers should take a
defensive driving course and learn to drive attentively as people
often zone out while driving. Learning the rules of the road is the
most important in keeping you and the others around you safe.
According to AAA, if teens take drivers ed, they can reduce their
accident rate by 4.3% and cut down on getting ticketed by 40%.
Drivers ed focuses on staying alert of those around you
because you cannot count on others to drive safe for you. Whether you
have been driving for two weeks or twenty years staying alert and
keeping others in mind can save you or others around. Driving and
lifeguarding, in some aspects, are very similar. Lifeguards are
required to keep surveillance of the area around them, so they are
prepared to take action when they spot an accident. Using those same
tactics, drivers can drive safer on the roads while keeping others in
mind.
Not
even a couple days ago, I was going to get food with friends and a
reckless driver ran a stop light. Due to my friends defensive driving
and staying alert of others around us, we were able to stop before we
ended up in a car crash. While the other driver was obviously not
paying mind to the rules of the road and others, my friend did, and
ultimately saved our lives from what could have been a deadly
circumstance.
