Safe
Drivers Are Smart Drivers

Take
yourself back to the first time you drove a car and think about how
nervous you were, probably because you had so much to learn about
driving. Many teens partake in a class such as drivers ed and
learn how to respect the road, drive safely, and to keep not only
yourself safe but others safe as well. It is very important that we
teach and promote future generations to drive safe. Drivers ed
courses could save so many lives. Just by a person going to a few
courses and passing the class it can change how you as a driver see
things. This can help prevent and reduce the number of fatalities
caused by vehicle related accidents.

There
are so many ways to be a safe driver and to promote safe driving.
When driving a vehicle you should know how the vehicle works, and if
you are comfortable driving it. Also you should look into if there
are any special classes or licenses you need for the vehicle you are
going to be operating. For example, operating a motorcycle is
completely different than driving an SUV. Put your phone away and
focus on the road. Social Media and text messages will still be there
until you get to your destination and it can wait. If you are riding
with a friend that is distracted by texting. Offer to text for them,
tell them you are uncomfortable with them texting, that you care
about them, and don’t want them to get into an accident. Also you
should wear your seatbelt when driving. You never know when you have
to make a last minute stop. Even doing a quick seatbelt check before
you get on the road will help keep everyone safe.  By using some
of these simple steps you can not only protect others on the road,
but yourself..

When
it comes to driving irresponsibly or riding with an irresponsible
driver you are putting your life at risk. You should think about
should I be driving right now, and if you want to get in the car with
them. There was one instance where I was riding with a friend. She
didn’t want to take the highway, so we took a paved backroad. She
was driving 20 over the speed limit, and was messing with her phone
to find music. I was very scared, I kept telling her to slow down and
that I would find the music, but she refused until I told her I was
calling my mom. Then she suddenly slowed down. I won’t ride with
her anymore because I don’t want to put my life at risk just to
hang out with her when we are going somewhere. And, no one should
have to be afraid of riding with someone just because they are being
reckless and stupid because they want to look “cool”. The cool
thing to do is drive safely and respect the road and other drivers.
