Little
things make the roads safer

Driving
is one of the largest causes of death, but that is because such a
large amount of people either drive, or ride in a car. Drivers
education is very important in reducing how many accidents happen on
the road. One of the things that people don’t think about when it
comes to driving, is that you not only have to learn how to
physically drive, but you also have to learn the rules and laws of
the road. Without drivers ed, all of the new drivers would not
be aware of all of the rules, and laws that come into action while
driving. When I started drivers ed, I already knew how to
physically drive a car. What I did not know, was what every sign, or
light meant. I did not know when you can pass another car on the
dashed line, or that you must stop for people at all times because
they have the right of way. Knowing the difference between a flashing
red light, and a flashing yellow light in itself definitely reduces
the amount of collisions. Knowing that you can only turn right on
read, but not left on read, is also something very important that I
never would have thought about before drivers ed. Learning
what the speed limit is on different types of rods, so that you know
even if you can not find a speed limit sign, is also a very important
thing to know for everyone’s safety on the road. The laws and rules
that are taught in drivers ed are very important to reducing
the number of deaths on the road. I think that in addition to drivers
education, making more states “Hands Free” driving states would
help with reducing the number of deaths. As much as it is convenient
to talking on the phone, or eat, or drink your coffee while driving,
it can also cause to looking away from the road for a moment. Even
one second looking away from the rod, a=can cause for people to not
see something happening in front of them that can cause an accident.
If no one ever looked away from the road while driving for any
reason, I think that little detail would really decrease the amount
of deaths while driving. I have never been in a car accident, but I
have seen friends and family drive irresponsibly. My dad often checks
his phone while diving, and my friends all text at red lights quite
often. I always remind them that even at a red light they are on the
road, and should be paying attention, and I tell my dad that whatever
is on his phone is not as important as the lives of his family in the
car. I think everyone could improve their driving in some ways, I am
going to stop drinking my coffee, and eating my snacks while on the
road, and I am going to remind all of my friends and family that
nothing is as important as the lives of everyone in their car, but
also all of the other cars on the road.
