Many
people underestimate the responsibility of driving. When you get
behind the wheel you are in charge of your life and those around you.
Your actions decide the fate of others. Don’t let others get hurt
with your bad decisions. There are 34,000 people are killed in car
accidents yearly. This issue that our society faces is due to the
choices that others make.

As
teens get their license and start to drive on their own, they see it
less important to continue to practice safe driving. They start to
text and drive, they don’t get enough sleep, or speed because it
fun. Part of this is because the frontal cortex is not fully
developed until they are 25. This means teens are not good at
understanding consequences. That shows how important it is to teach
them those consequences and show them the importance of driving
safely. They learn these skills in drivers ed. By teaching them
what to do in specific situations. This gives your brain references
in future situations. You can rely on your memory to help recall what
to do. This it will create safer and more aware drivers which will
help to reduce accidents.

To
help teach these consequences and how to handle the situations we
should simulate more situations. For example, doing drunk driving
simulation with a golf cart or other distracted driver simulators
help give reference to how it feels. We should also do it in smaller
groups instead of teaching a whole grade the lesson. This is because
in one large meeting there are many students not paying attention and
makes it impersonal to them. Another thing we can do is make teens
aware of their insufficient experience and help them to gain
experience in stressful situations. We should also teach them how to
be safer with their own driving in everyday life. For example,
students should take a defensive driving course to expand their
knowledge. Make sure they drive only when they can be fully aware of
their surroundings and allow extra time, so they’re not panicked
while driving. All these methods will ensure a safer road for
everyone around them.

I
personally have never gotten in a car accident, but there have been
times when it was close. This was due to people being impatient and
distracted. Seeing people drive not fully aware or impaired is
terrifying. There have been incidents where cars would have hit me
due to texting and driving. It’s easy to relate to the excitement
and satisfaction these people feel from responding but is that worth
the risk. The answer to that is no. Nothing can replace a life.
Remember when driving people are trusting you to drive safe; don’t
let them down.
