I
believe the importance for students to attend drivers Education is
very high. I have 1 daughter who has gone through the program and has
been a very responsible driver. She has had no infractions or
misconduct in her driving, she has been driving for about 15 months
now. My 2nd daughter is set to attend the program in a couple of
months and I’m looking forward to her learning from others and
having to be tested on things she won’t learn from her parents or a
short written test from Driver services. Education children is how we
can help them be prepared for crazy people/situations on the road.

There
are many things that can be done to eliminate deaths while driving
but I’m going to touch on what I think the biggest of those issues
is. Get rid of distractions and pay attention. If we as parents and
teachers train student drivers to be watching their surroundings,
turn off the radio, don’t have crazy passengers that distract, turn
your phone off, don’t eat while driving, eyes on the road at all
times, no alcohol or drug use and many more things to help them ….Get
rid of distractions and pay attention. I believe if these things were
taught and ingrained into students it would help tremendously with
reducing fatalities.

I
have experienced both having my daughter (she was 11 and in a
friend’s car) in a car accident and have seen my family member
driving irresponsibly. When my daughter was in a wreck the airbags
went off, she had to be checked by an EMT and the car was totaled.
Very scary for both of us but traumatic for her as well. In another
incident, my sister, who was driving all 3 of my children drove well
over 100 MPH on a highway that was 65 MPH.

I
believe there are a couple steps I can take to be a better and safer
driver as well as help others become safer on the road. One thing is
be aware of my surrounding/conditions and get rid of distractions and
the second would be raise drivers that know and follow those same
principles. In short, I don’t put all the responsibilities on
others to teach and train my children (student drivers). I believe a
large part of learning is watching the examples of those adults in
their lives, mainly parents at the beginning and after some training
other adults so when/if they have bad examples in there lives they
won’t follow those.
